Location was top notch. Conceirge was helpful when booking tours and they were very flexible with our check out.
Room furniture is a little old but for the value and location - you can't get any better than this :)

My wife and i stayed here for 5 days in our first vacation to NYC. The Edison is quaint, built in the 1930's and retained a lot of the old-world charm from that era. Though it's old, it's clean and the room we stayed in was very modern and comfortable.

We stayed in room 2100, a deluxe suite. Our suite had two rooms (bedroom+living room), large flat screen TVs mounted on the walls in each room, modern furniture, modernized bathroom, large open shower with the shower head coming from the ceiling, AC unit in both rooms were new and had intuitive controls on the wall and kept the spaces frosty while it was 80F+ outside. The bed was a little firm but comfortable. We had a Keurig coffee machine with a variety of coffee and tea pods, and a refrigerator. All devices and equipment worked well and were intuitive to use.

Also, our suite had a large balcony and a bench we used a couple of times late in the day to do some reading as we wound down from a busy day and before heading out to dinner. I'm attaching a pic of the balcony.

The hotel staff was friendly, we interacted with the elevator lobby security guys, the front desk for information, and also the Transportation rep (to schedule a 3:45am pick-up to take us to Newark airport). All interaction with the staff was cordial, helpful, friendly. The custodial staff did a good job cleaning the room and re-stocking stuff. I recommend leveraging their transportation rep to get you to the hotel, she'll schedule it through a transportation company they use a lot, the driver showed up right on time and was a relief for me to not have to worry about the end-phase of the visit.

There's lots of diners and coffee shops nearby. Each morning i could walk a minute and arrive at a shop with lots of fresh bagles/muffins/coffee to bring back to the room for a breakfast with the wife before heading out for the day. There is no room service, so you need to go out for food, or visit their cafe next door.

They have a bar called Rum House on the first floor, nice place. I don't drink alcohol so can't say if the drinks are pricey, but my wife tells me her Mojitos were $14 and tasted good if this helps you gauge the bar.

No free wi-fi, boo!

Walking 7 miles in a day is not a problem for us, so it was great to learn that we were walking distance to subways, we also walked a handful of blocks to Grand Central Station, the venerable NY Public Library, then walking distance to Empire State Building. Also, Radio Music City hall and Rockefeller Center are walking distance, too.

Overall the visit at Edison was very positive for us, we paid on average $320 per night for the 5 day visit for the large suite+balcony, i know they have much cheaper suites as well.

Room Tip: If you want to splurge on your family visit, get a room with a balcony over Times Square.

The Edison is in a perfect location. Half a block from Times Square between 46 and 47 streets. The staff was very helpful and attentive. It is a typical New York hotel with small rooms and tiny bathrooms. The lobby is beautiful if a little small depending upon the time of morning. Had a couple of problems; no cups in the room and remote that did not work, but both of these were address by the staff immediately. They need to give the conseriage some help. While they were very helpful, I had to wait every time that I needed their help.
I'm not sure that I would stay there again only because of the price. I can stay in a more modern hotel for the same price, but if I got a deal I would stay again.

The Edison Hotel is a lovely old style art deco hotel very close to Times Square and all the theatres. It's also in a great location for first time visitors to New York because you can walk south or north and get to most tourist locations on foot. Having said that, a few things to be aware of. We went in winter and the central heating in the hotel was so hot it was almost unbearable. We had to sleep with the air conditioner on cold just to keep the temperature down and we still could only sleep with a sheet on - this when it was -5 degrees Celsius outside. There are no tea/coffee facilities provided but you can ask for a coffee machine to be brought to your room, wifi is expensive. Worth considering if you want the location.

Room Tip: Ask for a better room if you are placed in one of the older, unrenovated rooms

We stayed in Room 1140 on their 11th floor at the rear of the hotel. The room was quite dated, but it was clean and serviced daily. The main drawback was an illuminated rooftop sign next door on the Scientology building and the lightproof cutains not covering the windows properly, but we still slept well. Remember to tip the cleaning service. Overall, it was good value for the room quality and the central location.

The Edison is very close to Time Square yet when you enter the hotel there is a reprieve from the crowds. We had a suite on the 21st floor. It was nice. I was not use to not having a dresser. A dresser would have been nice so we would not have to live out of our suitcases. The staff was excellent to work with, friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast in the hotel cafe as it was reasonable price and I did not feel comfortable sitting around as they were busy.

I would definitely stay at the Edison every time I travel to New York.

Room Tip: If you get a suite and are on the top floor just know that you will have a milk run during morning...

I booked this hotel because I got a coupon through in e-mail. My sister and I went to NYC in April 2012, it was my 1st trip and I wanted to be as close to Times Square as possible. The hotel was only a 1/2 block from Times Square, it was clean, the hotel staff was friendly and there was a great bar called the Celtic Pub on the next block that made our trip even better!! I will defiantly stay here on my next trip. I think they've changed their name to the Row NYC Hotel now.

Room Tip: I'd suggest getting a room AWAY from the elevators!!
