“Great Location”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

We recently stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. The location is really good, very close to Times Square, Broadway, Subway and shopping. We stayed in a classic 1 bed room and it had far more space than we had expected. The room was quite cold, but we asked for extra blankets and got them very quickly! Our only complaint would be that there was no hot water, just warm, and our bathroom door wouldn't close completely. Oh, and charging for internet is just plain unacceptable these days. We did purchase internet usage and found it to be a very weak signal. An addition of a restaurant on site would be good. The café wasn't that great. I would consider staying here again based on location alone.

We had a great stay at the Edison. We couldn't believe just how close it was to Times Square - a one minute walk will get you smack in the middle of everything! Staff were always friendly and helpful. They held our bags (for a small fee of $0.50/bag) until check in time on our arrival and again after check out until we left for the airport.
The bathroom was very small and the water temperature was inconsistent. We were unsure if the A/C would keep up with a truly hot night but it was okay for our October stay.
On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable and it was surprisingly quiet for sleeping.
Like most NYC hotels there is a fee for wifi but with a Starbucks across the street we got our internet fix with our morning coffee. I would definitely return to this perfectly located hotel and highly recommend their little gift shop.

Dear RowSellK,
We thank you for your courteous comment and rating. We indeed do have the advantage of being in a great location, in the heart of almost everything. It is good to know that you found our bell-captain services to be convenient. Regrettably you found the water temperature inconsistent, but it is an issue that is being worked on. We look forward to serving your family and you, on your next visit to New York City.

Just got back today 26th October...
Great hotel for location for Times Square..
The staff are polite, and couldn't do enough for you. ( we had a problem with the heater, rang down, and hey oh, it was fixed within 30 minutes..great service).
Just watch when you go for eating in the cafe, as they put down gratuity automatically on your bill--- where's my choice to pay for good service!

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms.... 311 which is on the front opposite a theatre...and 424 on the back of the hotel o...

The first thing to understand about New York hotels is that the rooms are small and the prices are high. The Edison is no exception If you can live with that, the Edison will be just fine for you.

The hotel is a historic art deco structure that has been well-maintained and updated. The staff has an obvious pride in the building. The staff was uniformly cheerful and helpful.

Our room was on the 9th floor in a corner and was clean and comfortable. There was a shortage of power outlets and it was tiny. Since we only needed it for sleeping, it was just fine overall.

The only thing that I really found off-putting is a charge for wi-fi. In this day and age, charging guests for wi-fi seems just cheesy too me. At $250 a night for a small room with limited amenities, free wi-fi would be a nice touch.

In all, the Edison is a comfortable, convenient hotel if you know what to expect.

Room Tip: Try to avoid being given a corner room.

My daughter and I had a room with 2 Queen beds, the room was not enormous but plenty big enough for our luggage (there was plenty of that) and to move around. The bathroom was very small but had everything we needed. Yes the hotel is not new but was very clean and comfortable and as we were not there to spend time hanging around in our room - as there is so much to see and do in New York, the Edison was in an excellent location and compared to the price of other hotels, great value for money.

Our second visit to the Edison and we were very pleased. An older Hotel totally kept up to date with all the charm of it's inception. The staff could not be more helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. The room had been recently renovated and was handicap equipped which we did not need, but nice to know. We had a problem with the A?C and they put in a replacement within an hour and a new one the next day. WiFi has a charge, I don't think it should. The Café Edison, privately run, is a gem. Great breakfasts at a fair price, but bring cash!

We stayed here a few weeks ago. We had booked accommodation elsewhere that wasn't suitable and needed to book somewhere for immediate check in, so we got a really good rate. I have to say our rooms were beautiful - having read through other reviews I think we must have gotten a renovated room. We were three friends - 1 boy and 2 girls and were able to get a suite containing a good-size living room with a sofa bed, and a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed, as well as an en suite, which meant our male friend could have some privacy in his own room. Both rooms were a really good size - as well as the queen-size bed, we had room for a desk and wardrobe and loads of space to move around them. They were beautifully decorated, but then I really like the old-time feel of the place. The bathroom was very small but clean. We stayed for 6 nights and were very comfortable. As mentioned by others, the location is brilliant if you want to be touristy. We were on the 18th floor and couldn't hear any noise at all from the street. The only small down-side with the room was the low lighting - we only had lamps and it would have been nice to have an over-head light to turn on sometimes.

Our package didn't include breakfast but we did buy breakfast in the diner one morning and it was tasty, if not out-standing, and good value. The concierge staff were really helpful and knowledgeable in helping me with travel arrangements and maps etc.

The were only 2 downsides: There is no free wifi in the rooms, and the option to buy it was quite expensive. As we were there for 6 nights this started to grate on us and would put me off staying there again. Happily there are 2 Starbucks right outside so we ended up starting our days there, also many restaurants and museums etc in New York provide free wifi so we were able to get by, but probably not great for a business traveller hoping to work in the hotel.

The other downside was payment - when we checked in I clarified with the cashier that we were using my friends credit card for the booking, but we wanted to pay our bills separately on check-out, and she said that wouldn't be a problem and my friend's card wouldn't be debited. Unfortunately they did indeed go ahead and deduct the full amount off her card, leaving us in the uncomfortable position of having to give her cash for her card instead of just being able to whack it on our own credit cards and sort it out at home.

All in all a great wee hotel in a fabulous location, and we were delighted with it having had to move from somewhere awful. But do clarify method of payment and probably not great for a business traveller.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for less noise.
