This is a classic hotel, that hasn't changed all that much over the years. My great-grandfather stayed there, my grandfather stayed there, and my father stayed there. You seriously could not ask for a better location to Times Square in this price range. There are more expensive hotels next door and all over the place, that probably have slightly nicer rooms and/or service, etc. But for the money, you can't beat the old Edison.
We stayed in one of the recently renovated regular rooms (non-Signatire), and the decor was very nice. The bathroom was in need of a redo, as it is showing its age with slightly stained and faded bathtubs, paint, and ceilings. Wather pressure was hot or miss, but we had no issues with the temperature at all. The bed was one of the most comfortbale we have stayed on in recent years - so much so that we are going to call to find out the brand and model to replace our mattress at home.
The staff and concierge were very nice, but honestly never went out of their way to help. However, they were not rude at all. Basically what you should expect from this class of hotel in NYC.
Summing it up: you simply cannot beat the location/price relationship with The Edison.More
