A fantastic location in Times Square
Posted18 April 2013
Location, location, location!
Amazing
This hotel is in a perfect location - literally a minutes walk from Times Square! We walked pretty much everywhere from the hotel to key attractions and if needed to, got the subway too.
We stayed in a Queen room, one that hadn't been updated but we knew this when we booked. We weren't fussed about a modern updated room because who spends time in their room when you're in such an amazing city?!! It was very clean, the bed was comfy and we had no problems with the shower and plumbing as other reviews have mentioned.
I emailed ahead asking for a room on a higher floor because I'm a light sleeper and they granted this request on arrival.
Another bonus was free access to airline check in, in the business centre of the hotel. There was no need to pay for Internet access to check in. Airline check in on the Edison computers is free and free printing too - you don't get this at many hotels!
This is a great hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Edison for a family trip to NYC. We got two Classic 2 Queen rooms. One was recently renovated and very nice, and the other was outdated. I would recommend that the hotel renovate all of the hotel rooms. Even though we were not in the rooms all that much, it is nice to have new, comfortable beds, and linens after a long day touring the city. The renovated room had newer, firmer mattresses than the other room, which was fine by my husband and I as we prefer a firm mattress. We didn't have any problems with the plumbing in either room, but I will concur that the bathrooms are small. The location is great and there are very good restaurants on 47th Street and within walking distance of the hotel. The front desk, security and housekeepers were all very friendly and helpful. I would recommend Hotel Edison, but don't expect to get a luxury hotel suite!

Dear CentralTXtravelers,
It is always a pleasure receiving feedback from discerning guests such as yourself.
For those guests that do prefer a more luxurious experience, we are proud to offer our fully renovated Signature rooms or one of our Deluxe rooms. Please consider one of these options for future trips. We are sure you will like them and look forward to having you stay with us again.

We stayed there for spring break last week and it was awesome. Andrew the concierge was knowledgeable about where things are in the city. The location was fantastic. Although we asked for a renovated room, we were told they were not available in suites. The janitorial staff was super and friendly. The room was always clean and fresh.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room.

Nice location, friendly personnel. Room to tight/narrow. Could hardly get trough between drawer chest and bed. Mattress: to hard. Bathroom: much to small, dripping faucet/shower which couldn't be fixed. Across the hotel they had a rubbish truck for many hours a day and at night getting rid of renovation trash. After the second night we asked for another room which they gave us right away and helped us move our stuff.
Second room even smaller except bathroom which was about 1 foot bigger. We gave up on complaining about dripping faucets. This one was worst than the first bathroom. I guess the faucets where as old as the tiles e.g. early 1960's. The furniture and linens were probably from the same time period. We love NYC but this time we were glad to go back home and never return to this hotel!
Not much of a water pressure for the showers and not enough hot water. Last two hours of our stay the toilet didn't stop flushing. What a nightmare!

Room Tip: Look in another hotel - not here!

Ever wondered how a hotel or restaurant got average to good ratings even though nothing was like it is supposed to be? Hotel Edison in NYC is such an mystery to me. This hotel is totally outdated. Because of a dripping bathtub faucet which didn't let us sleep we asked for a new room. Our wish was granted even though it got worse. The shower was dripping and the toilet flush did not stop correctly. Since we didn't want to move again we bit the bullet and stayed.
And yes, we asked several times for a plumber who never came. The rooms in general are small. But that's not the major problem. The issue is that you do not know where to put things. There was not even a small glass shelve in the bathroom. We had to put toiletry and tooth brushes on top of the tissue box holder. And since the toilet flush was one of the kind they put in bathrooms in the 50s there was no tank to put something on top.
This hotel really needs a major renovation. Better: Tear it down and rebuilt! Meanwhile I keep wondering why the next guest writes a more kinder review and misguides us Tripadvisor followers...

Dear Gourmet2020,
We thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. It sounds as though you reserved a standard, classic room and not a Signature room which have all been fully renovated including the bathrooms. It is our wish that you will reserve a Signature room in the future so that you will notice the difference. We hope to welcome you back.

The Hotel Edison is a wonderful place to stay..GREAT location..we had two women and two teenage boys (17 and 14) in the Superior Two King room and other than the bathroom was small there was plenty of room. A flat screen TV, a mini-fridge and Keurig coffee maker. There is a deli next door and a Duane Read's a block or so over where we picked up drinks and fruit for the fridge. We did eat in the diner attached to the hotel, the food was good and not too overpriced (of course you are in New York not Tennessee) but the service was not good. The hotel front desk, cleaning service and concierege were very helpful, there is also a small shop in the hotel. The hotel may be older, but they have renovated most of the rooms. It was clean and we felt very safe. Overall it was a wonderful place to stay and I would definitely stay there again..I can not say enough good things about the location!!! We walked to most every tourist spot and those that we didn't walk to we took the hop on hop off bus which is only a block or so from hotel. Definitely would suggest the bus if your first time in NYC..you will get to see so much more and they have added the Bronx and Brooklyn to the tours. It was a great experience for me, my sister-in-law and my boys. I love NYC. Only issue we had..March in NYC was still a little to cold for this southern girl!!!

You couldn't get more central than this hotel. A minutes walk from Times Square.
Some people said it was old fashioned, but it had great character. The rooms were clean and comfortable and although perhaps slightly on the small side for us and the kids, it really didn't matter. You're not in New York to spend time in your room! The staff were helpful, happy and nothing was too much trouble. Next door to the hotel is Deli called Dannys which is open 24 hours and sells breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks. It was fantastic and great value and you can sit in and eat. If we ever go to New York again we would not hesitate in booking this hotel again. Excellent.
