“Very nice stay.”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

This was my second time staying at the Edison and found everything much improved. We were in renovated rooms that were small (though not by New York standards) but very nice. The new beds were especially comfortable (some sleep is needed). The Art Deco style in the lobby is great along with the old fashioned diner for meals...as we looked where to sit for breakfast our waitress said "Don't think, just sit and eat!"...she was a sweetie! Hotel is in the heart of theatre district and within walking distance to much more.

Reading the reviews I am kinda scared of the rooms. I have been to NY many times and have stayed in various places. I am excited for the price but unsure of the details due to the reviews. We will be attending a wedding and would love a good time. I see that one should request a updated room, so that's my plan. I am military and also a firefighter so I have seen many scenes!!! Please be a good hotel for our april stay.

Room Tip: Future trip

The Edison is conveniently located close to times sq and this is probably it's only selling point.
The hotel itself is very dated, the rooms tiny and the walls paper thin. One can clearly hear conversations from adjacent rooms and everything that goes on in the hallways.
While I didn't have much interaction with the hotel staff themselves, the lady at the transportation desk was particularly unhelpful. It seemed like a big effort to her to answer questions about getting to and from the airport.
This is place is suitable for the solo traveller for a few cheap nights in times sq. but definitely a no no for couples/families.

Dear realhighh,
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you were disappointed with your room and deem our property unsuitable for couples and families. Many of our core clientele are comprised of couples and families, including second and third generations. We'd like to welcome you back in the near future to one of our renovated rooms. In the past year several rooms have been updated and refurbished and we think you willnotice the difference in one of our Signature room types. We look forward to welcoming you back.

Have been to the fanciest, most expensive, really convenient hotels throughout New York City over the years. But for some reason, I keep going back to this convenient hotel in the heart of Times Square. It is clean, comfortable but the rooms tend to be on the smaller side which I personally don't mind because, after a hectic day in Manhattan, my main interest is to hop into bed and rest. Over the years, many of the rooms have been redesigned and refurnished so it does keep up with the Times. Just don't expect anything elaborate. Not the best place to stay if you are trying to impress someone, but for price and location, the Edison always stands out in my mind. There are no elaborate restaurants there either, but Starbucks is across the street for morning coffee and The View at the Marriott is right across the street as are other popular eateries.

When we booked the Edison I was a bit dubious as I had read conflicting reports. We were on a budget so had very little to choose from. On one review someone suggested we request one of the newly renovated rooms as the old ones were really outdated. This we did and wasn't I pleasantly surprised to get a beautiful brand new room with an enormous amount of space. Granted it was a wheelchair friendly room which made it even more spacious. The wet room was huge. To top it all u just walked out of the hotel and there was Times Square right in front of us! I don't think we could have got a better location. Also, instead of having to spend time looking for places to eat breakfast, we ate at the restaurant off the lobby. The pancakes were to die for and the service was quick and the staff very pleasant. We have already recommended the Edison to family and friends and would not hesitate to stay there again if we are fortunate to go back to New York.

I'm giving this hotel an average rating because of these reasons:

Pros: Amazing location, phenomenal price especially for NYC, easy access, fast check-in & check-out, helpful concierge.

Cons: The room was decently clean, but not nice. It was completely outdated and very worn. The dressers and bathroom especially. The toilet kept flushing and flushing for a very long time and we called someone when it didn't stop - promptly- and they took a VERY long time to come. We asked for towels and that also took a very long time. The toilet continuously flushed for over a half hour before someone came. The shower head dripped 24/7.
