I have been staying at The Edison since 1984 and continue to enjoy my stays here. There is something extremely comforting about a facility that reflects "Old New York" charm in a simplistic way. The staff is gracious and very helpful. My room this visit was clean, neat, and small, but, for a single traveler, all my needs were met. Yes, if you want glamour and glitz, there are other places. So go there if that is what you require in order to be happy. This establishment provides all the comfort, cleanliness, and security that any traveler should need. I always return and in 29 years, I have never had a bad Hotel Edison experience. Russell Johnson

Room Tip: If you have problems with your accommodations, then contact the Front Desk. They are very helpful.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. Stayed in April 2012. They didnt have our booking, front desk staff weren't very helpful. We were put in a filthy room, which for the price we were paying we werent happy with, so they upgraded us to their renovated level - which was still gross.
The shower was covered in mould, we had to request a new shower curtain as it was covered in mould. Yes it's New York so the rooms were small, it was a bed to sleep to in at the end of the day and thats about it.

Dear Leeshie83,
We are sorry you had such a disappointing stay last April. It has been almost a year since your visit and we are happy to apprise you that many of our guest rooms have undergone renovations and we are proud to introduce our Signature and Superior rooms. We hope to welcome you back, and are confident you will notice the transformation and be pleased in one of these room types.

If you're looking for a posh, slick, magazine photo type hotel The Edison isn't for you. However it is convenient, very reasonably priced for New York, and spacious. We stayed in a one bedroom suite on a high floor which gave us plenty of room and great city views. The bed was remarkably comfortable and the wi-fi, though not free, was reasonably priced compared with other hotels. The Edison Cafe serves good diner food as well as dishes my Jewish grandmother used to make. It's also handy for coffee and tea in the morning, which is helpful, since there's not a coffee maker in the room.

After a stressful start to our holiday moving from one hotel to the Edison Hotel, i can honestly say the Edison Hotel made up for it. The hotel is a minuites walk from Times Square, this is great if you want to experience all that New York has to offer. Hotel room was very clean, beds very comfortable and no problems with noise. We felt safe to be able to come back late, so we were able to make the most of the time we had at New York. The staff outside were very welcoming and always said hello. The Edison restaurant connected on to the hotel and made lovely breakfasts, we had pancakes which were lovely although a little pricey. Great stay and recommend anyone to stay here :)

Stayed here from the 20th to the 24th Feb, this is my 2nd visit here at 'The Edison' and as always i have never had a problem.
All staff are extremley helpful and very polite.
I stayed in the newly renovated rooms with all up todate amenities on the 7th floor.
The bed was extremely comfortable, with crisp linen, the room was cleaned every day and was to the highest !!!
Right in the heart of it all, less than 2 mins walk to Time Square.
Breakfast in the cafe will keep you going all day !!!!
Will i be back ? most definitely, had the time of my life :-)
Thanks again to all.

If you are looking for for a spotlessly clean, reasonably priced hotel with good restaurants in NYC's theatre district, or close to Times Square, you won't do better than the Edison.

Stepping into it's beautifully muraled Lobby, with comfortable seating, and many friendly faces to greet you, you know you're in the right place.

We arrived quite early in the morning and were delighted to find an early check in was waiting for us.Ask ahead of time if you need this. The desk will do their best to accomodate you. If you can't do an early check in, you can leave your luggage.

Our room was not huge, but, frankly, larger than expected in a Hotel that's been around since the 30's. We had plenty of room with two queen beds and a desk.

The bathroom was small, but again, we expected that. It worked fine for two women. It had been renovated to be as modern as possible. Most important, the bathroom and the room itself were immaculate. I mean, spotless ! The whole hotel was extremely clean.

The staff at the desk, and the consierge were at all times, exceptionally courteous and helpful. Also, security was very pleasant but fairly strict, which in this day and age is appreciated.

We ate dinner in the lovely Sofia's restaurant our first night there. Excellent food and service, nice atmosphere. Price was fine for a nice place.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of their coffee shop. We ate a delicous, resonably priced breakfast there all three mornings. Very good service and food. Be warned, your tip is included on your bill, which we didn't notice the first morning. : )

You have only to step literally across the street, or walk a few blocks to attend the majority of most Broadway shows playing. Many types of restaurants are nearby, and exciting Times Square is a short, safe walk of a few blocks.

If you're flying, do arrange to take the Hotel shuttle, which again was extremely resonably priced, and worked out wonderfuly for us arriving, and leaving.

If you need a huge super luxorious room, or an enormous bath, this classic Hotel may not be for you.

If you are looking for, comfort, convenience, and cleanliness, and character, you will be in excellent hands. I look forward to staying there again already.

Room Tip: We had no view, but a very quiet room. Ask politely for what you want. We only slept in our room, so...

I could give them a 4 star because of the location being mere steps from the big red stairs in Times Square but other than that the Edison is what it is. The place crackles with busyness as foreigners, students, citizens and everyone pours through the place. The lobby is truly cool but not gigantic. The door guys run a very tight ship and keep an eye on everything. The coffee shop AKA The Polish Tea Room is intense and busy and great food be here: blintzes, borscht, etc. etc. we ate two breakfasts here: they add the tip to the tab so watch out. The room we had was on a freaking air shaft, small but new and fresh. Did I mention it's on a air shaft because I hate air shafts. Personally I think they should have a air shaft warning. If they want to charge more for a view fine: but let me know. The TV and the room were a;ll good. Clean and small yes... but perfect. I have stayed at the Edison for 25+ years. It is a fairly priced budget travelers and business hotel run as a classic art form of a busy inner city ground zero busy place. People just pour in and out. I would have paid more for a view and a bigger room but then it would have been money I did not have in my pocket for Becco's! The Edison lobby is worth a visit no matter if you are staying there and the coffee shop is a NY original!

Room Tip: eat at Beccco's 355 46th street eat at the coffee shop in the lobby!

Dear Mike H,
Thank you for your feedback. While most people who choose our hotel do so to be in the middle of it all, we can understand that it might to too much for others. With over 800 rooms in the center of the theater district, our location is one of the prime attractions of The Hotel Edison and we are privileged to run at a consistently high occupancy level as a result, which does make for a busy property. We are sorry that your room was not satisfactory. For the future, please let our Front desk know. They will gladly switch rooms based on availability. We look forward to welcoming you back.
