“Time Square at your feet”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

The best thing about this hotel, was probably the fact that you are 3min walk away from one off the busiest and most lively locations in Manhattan; Time Square.

We stayed here in July 2012 and the sole purpose of our visit was business.
Even though business in NYC is something of a different kind.

The rooms were small and somewhat smelly. My view wasn’t all that great even though it was on the 5th floor. Please note to ask for a room with a working a/c as this is critical in July with the high temperatures in the city at that time.

It was a short stay and I saw the heart of NY, nothing beats location in Manhattan and that’s what this hotel provided for.

I love NY and the Edison is good place to start with!

The Deli right next to the hotel is great for an early breakfast and a coffee and the bar in the lobby ideal for some evening bliss.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a view of Time Square.

Dear Christoff1,
Thank you for your review. We are indeed fortunate to be in such an advantageous location. Needless to say all comments are welcome and we take everything constructively. Due to the layout of the hotel our rooms vary in size. We hope to accommodate you in one of our larger rooms on your next trip.

Why this hotel has the poor reviews it has I dont know, its a very good hotel. The situation of the hotel, Times Square, is probably the best you can get. Yes, the hotel is an older art deco style, but this brings the sense of an old new york theme which suits the hotel down to the ground. I've stayed here in 2009 and unless it's gone down hill in those few years then this hotel is vastly under rated.

All of the staff are very help, especially security even if they are quite strict. They wouldn't even let my 10 year old brother go into the elevator without presenting a pass when he popped down to the hotel shop. But if you look at it another way, it's security at it's best.

The room was quite large for New York hotels as most hotels in NY as substantially smaller than your average hotel room. The rooms are very well air conditions so we had no trouble during the August months which are ridiculously humid ( I had two showers a day minimum!)

I found the room to be fairly quiet considering we were in the centre of Times Square, you'd hear the odd police siren but that was about it. One thing I didn't find too good was the shower. The plumbing in this hotel was fairly hit and miss. One room the pressure was like a fire hose and the other it was like trying to get washed under a leaky tap! Reception were great and moved us to a different, updated room and we had no problems then on.

Great hotel, massively under rated.

Room Tip: Give reception a good 'tip' and ask for a good room. It will get you far ;-)

We stayed in the Hotel Edison in December of 2011, and again in February 2013. The renovated some of the bathrooms. The one we had this time was renovated. The shower was quite nice , but there's nothing they can do about the tiny size. The new sink is impressive to the eyes, but not practical at all. It's one of those modern sinks with the large, shallow bowl and the faucet off-set to the right rear. The problem in the design is that it is impractical. You can barely get your hands under the water with out banging them against the bowl.

Still insufficient plugs for charging today's modern electronic devices.

The biggest disappointment was the parking situation. Apparently the have an outside company handling the valet parking of their guests' cars, but they handle the billing for the parking at the regular front desk. We couldn't check in until 3:00 and we were back to pick up our car the next day before 3:00. Nevertheless, they charged us a for a full extra day at $60! It turned out to be $120 to park for less than a full day! This was robbery, and extremely tacky and detrimental to the hotel's reputation. Solely because of the parking situation, we will be looking elsewhere to stay the next time we're in NYC. I asked for the charge to be pro-rated and I was told by Hotel Edison front desk staff, "Sorry. We can't do that." It really cheapened the reputation of the hotel and damped our overall experience.

Room Tip: Stay here if you feel like getting gouged with parking fees.

Dear ideacon, Thank you for your feedback. We realize that interior décor is a highly personal thing and sincerely regret that our bathroom design did not meet with your approval. As for the garage, they are independently owned as you have pointed out, but have a negotiated rate for our guests. Their checkout time is 1pm and any additional time is charged as an additional day. We are sorry if this was not explained to you. We hope to welcome you back to the Hotel Edison.

Just got back from our first trip to New York City. Hotel Edison is the place to stay if you want to be steps away from Time Square, Restaurants,Subway Stations and even within walking distance to Central Park and Rockafeller Center. The accomodations were average but very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I can't wait to return again and will definetly be staying at Hotel Edison! Loved it!

really enjoyed our stay at the Edison Hotel. The accomodation was perfectly wonderful. The staff looked after us well. I am terribly claustrophobic so unable to travel in lifts, but the security staff were very helpful in helping me up the stairs. I would highly recommend...see you again soon.

This hotel is so run down and needs a total refurbishment! We checked in and went to a room which I can't properly describe! Disgusting tiny unsafe dated. We comPlained and moved rooms. We were moved 4 times each room all on different floors were awful.

Room 1 on the eight floor
Opened the rusty door into a dark corridor about 8 foot long with wall paper falling off the Walls. Walk into a strong smell of bleach or cleaning products! Disgusting. Bed covered in some sort of 80s thing. You would gave to see it too believe it. Awful.

I can't be bothered describing the other rooms that were only slighty better.

The room we ended up staying in, the best of the four we tried, had no lights in the bathroom. Showered in the dark for 2 days till they finally fixed it. A guy came on the first day pulled the light switch out of the wall and told us there was ONLY lose wiring and he would pop back to fix it. He never did. He just got it working but told us not to turn the light off or it wouldn't go back on because of the lose wires!!! Is the not a massive health and safety risk?!

The staff asked before we even told them what the problem was
"is it the wall paper coming off the Walls or the room size that was the prob"
That says it all as they are more than aware of the substandard accommodation they provide!

Also when we checked out we were charged 50 cent a bag to leave them at reception. What a joke, it nit the money but the fact they charge!!

This hotel if you can call it that is a disgrace! I would tell everyone to avoid it like the plague!!

One positive is the location, they know it's in a great location so they clearly can't be bothered making any effort!!

This is the first review I've ever written but how bad this hotel is had forced me into action!

The Hotel Edison is located just steps away from Times Square. The rooms vary in size and amenities. I lead a group in New York and we had 40 rooms at this hotel and the rooms were clean and practical and the staff helpful. The rates are certainly great for the location and we had no complaints that I heard from anyone.
