“PERFECT LOCATION and an old hotel”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

Great Location right in the middle of Times Square with short access to many Subway trains. E train ( which connects to AIRTRAIN if flying in and out of JFK airport) is 2 blocks away.
I booked a suite for 4 nights but with the mixed reviews, did not really have a very high expectation. so i requested for a RENOVATED room both in RES and upon check in. DID NOT GET IT. instead i got a very depressing room with very old furnitures, the bed was like a plywood and the heater had no controls so it came on when the room got VERY COLD. Just like any old buildings is NY, i could see wires in nooks and crannies, thick paint, peeling wallpaper but it is an old hotel. But the hotel itself really is just so old and a drab from its old carpet, furnishings etc etc from the Lobby, hallways . The bathroom was clean and was stocked and cleaned everyday. The housekkeping was there when i asked for additional items. EVERY Morning there was construction, YES, LIKE JACKHAMMERS ! going on on the top floor.
The only good thing about this hotel is there is security at the elevator and they require you to show your key.
If you dont mind an old hotel, for its great location and price, this will do. However, this was like staying in those roadside hotels........ Because there is no guarantee what kind of room one can get, I MAY NOT stay there again until all rooms are renovated.
I am from NY and have stayed in different hotels within the boroughs but i was really dissappointed with this especially after i specifically asked and again after i upgraded to a suite and did not get a new room.

Room Tip: dont expect a roomy room no matter what kind of room. this is a typical old NY building and everyth...

My daughters and I came to the Edison on the recommendation of a friend. We couldn't believe the location as we were dropped off at the door. We were a little early for check-in but the front desk was able to find a room for us. This was just the start of the welcoming atmosphere that we found at the Edison. All of the staff that we dealt with, from the front desk to the concierge to the wait staff in the adjoining restaurant were very friendly and helpful. It is an older hotel but the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Times Square is practically outside the front door and we found we were able to walk to many of the sites we wished to see. I have raved about this "find" to one and all and would definitely come here again.

I am a longtime New Yorker, born and raised in the city, but have been away for a few years. I went back (with my husband-to-be) to spend a few days as a tourist in Times Square before our City Hall ceremony. He had picked this place out months ago because its reviews were good, its prices were low, its location was stellar, and it had deep connections to local theatre history. (As well as to film lore, since Luca Brasi of "Godfather" fame was garrotted in one of the downstairs bars.) We found the staff very friendly, actually. We thought the place was clean, and it looked great, especially the lobby lounge. As for the location, it's convenient to everything the city has to offer. The Rum House downstairs offers exceptional cocktails and live music. The Cafe Edison is a cute old-school diner. And Sofia's is a quaint, less "in your face" dining/drinking experience. Check-in is at 3pm, so plan ahead. And go in the winter to take advantage of some genuinely outrageous discounts. (The price of our stay dropped TWICE before our visit! Keep your eye on the website!) This place may not have all the amenities of the other souped-up NYC hotels, but it's definitely a great choice if you want to save money without accumulating sketchiness.

Room Tip: Get a deluxe room if you can, it's worth the upgrade, as the regular-sized rooms can be small.

Just returned from a stay at The Edison and have to say the overall experience was very good.
As most have stated in earlier posts the hotels position in Times Square is fantastic, right in the centre of it.

Now for the hotel itself.
Booked the hotel through its own website as I found no other site could match it on price, (winter special I think). Booked a room with two queens as it was the same price as a double, queen or king. Requested a renovated room after reading some of the posts here. The hotel stated this could not be confirmed as they allocate room on an availability basis. We arrived at the hotel at approximately 2.00pm, went to check-in which was quiet and were allocated our room right away. Up to our room which was situated on the 14th floor. Our room was huge and seemed very nice. It overlooked the Barrymore theatre roof and looked into some offices and apartments but was not too intrusive. Even at 14 floors, if you are a light sleeper, you'll struggle to get any shut eye due to the noise from traffic horns, sirens and party people out having a good time. The bathroom was adequate for our needs but was a bit dated. The lobby areas are very nice and there always seemed to be plenty of staff on hand for any queries you may have. Found the all the staff I had dealings with to be pleasant. Liked the idea of having to show your room key before you could enter the lifts. Used the cafe attached to the hotel a few times for breakfast. Good sized portions and friendly staff. Used the bar once it was ok. For what we paid, we can have no complaints and would recommend this hotel and will use it again if we are looking for a hotel in Times Square.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Edison Hotel Times Square for its friendly and accomodating staff and affordable room rate. We're seniors on a limited income. The hotel is in a great location. Our room was clean and attractive and. we enjoyed having a restaurant and cocktail lounge on site. We will definitely return.

Overall I would return to this hotel but with much lower expectations. Front desk help is horrible! Felt they could care less about you the customer. Arrived earlier than the room was ready and needed to take business items out of my luggage,to store them (which does charge you)however their lobby does NOT let you in with luggage!Needed to unpack in front of the desk! I was told that I could not try to check in till two hours later because I had already tried once! Checking out,no banter,no "how was your stay?" they couldn't care less.

I recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget who is traveling to NYC! It's just steps from Times Square, has an awesome restaurant inside of it (Cafe Edison - suprisingly good. especially the matzo ball soup) and is super affordable.

Room Tip: I do recommend asking for a hotel room in the back so it's quieter :)
