Although I've stayed here before and found it quite nice, when I went to book this hotel again, I realized that their "cancellation policy" was really an one-night non-refundable fee. Usually, the booking entry tells you if the rate is non-refundable: "However, this hotel (St Giles - The Tuscany New York) charges cancellation fees in accordance with its own cancellation policy (and this cost will be passed on to you): Cancellations or changes made after 4:00 PM ((GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)) on 12/29/11 will be subject to a 100% fee. This fee will be calculated based upon the total price of your booking. Cancellations or changes made BEFORE 4:00 PM ((GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)) on 12/29/11 WILL BE SUBJECT TO A 1 NIGHT ROOM AND TAX FEE." That's right, you can't change or cancel the room without PAYING a one-night fee....

I stayed here for a weekend trip to New York during the holidays. The first thing I noticed is the friendliness of the staff. The hotel appears to be an older building that has been redone. The upsides: The room was spacious and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The downsides: The walls are thin - when the room next door would turn on TV it would come blaring through our wall. The bathroom and closet doors need replacing; you can tell they have been painted several times to make them look new. Also, the ceiling had cracks and needs replacing with new drywall. Not that I wouldn't stay here again, but I think it wouldn't be my first choice. As far as location, we always seemed to end up on the west side and had to walk to the west side, which seemed far. However, it was on a quiet street, and our floor was quiet, which I appreciated.

We stayed here for 6 nights in November and could not have been happier. Large rooms, comfortable cosy bed (kingsize), truly pleasant helpful staff, great breakfast room (pay for what you eat rather than a buffet - excellent arrangement). So close to everywhere. Fantastic value, refurbishment next year so I hope they don't reprice it too high. walk New York, it's amazing!

I stayed at the Tuscany for two nights with a traveling companion and it was very, very positive. We were shopping for price, plus we needed a room with two beds. The Tuscany provided a very large room (more like a suite) with a large bathroom, hot shower with lots of water, walk-in closet, and all of the normal amenities. We had cocktails in the bar "Audrey" twice, and the service was very good, and they offer 2:1 Mondays and Tuesdays. We needed to be in the area of Grand Central Station, and it's only a few blocks away. I highly recommend the Tuscany and so did the guy I was traveling with.

Room Tip: Upper floors probably have a little less street noise. We were on the 4th floor, and it was fine, bu...

Stayed there for one night. The room was huge! (standard room!) probably one of the best ones I've ever stayed at. the view wasn't amazing. we were accomodated on the 5th floor, back room so had a view on the wall. We had a problem with heating, but the hotel staff was very helpful and it was sorted out immediately (even though it was the middle of the night). Located in a quitet (as for Manhattan) street just minutes away from the Grand Central station is a plus!

Recently stayed one night with my husband. Had read A lot of reviews on various websites. They were all good so I decided to go with it. Got a great deal for room, parking and breakfast. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, and friendly service.
The hotel was walking distance to all the retail stores and to times square. Would definetly recommend and plan on staying there again.

Stayed here for five days December 2011. Room was big and clean. A little worn-out, but still in ok shape. Very comfortable bed. View of Empire State Building from our room in the 8th floor.

Location was excellent. just three blocks from Central Station. We took the subway to and from JFK airport, it functioned perfectly. Walking distance from shopping and sightseeing, and good connections by subway.
