“NIGHTMARE!”
Reviewed August 14, 2007

Our whole experience at this hotel was a disaster. We checked in after a long flight and wanted to get changed. Unfortunately our room was not ready. We never got to rest/freshen up. We had to leave and come back in an hour. When we returned we finally got to see our rooms. There was nothing special about the rooms. It was tiny. It only consisted of a bed, tv (although it was a nice flat screen, half the time the channels wouldn't change/hear them), and a bathroom. The beds were pretty comfy though. The desk/concierge wasn't too friendly. Every time we asked for help/info it always seemed like a hassel. I never felt comfortable. We got an ajoining room with an outer door. That way we could keep our doors open and close the outer door. Well... the outer door locks and there is no way to open it! We realized it and asked the maid to please ask the desk to open the door. We returned about 4 hours later to find a locked door. So we went down to ask the desk and they said they would send the engineer up to open it. Why don't they just have a key??? GOSH. Well we waited... and then waited some more for the engineer. It took about an hour until we could finnaly get into our room. Anways. Overall this hotel was a nightmare. It was clean and pretty but it had too many errors. There are tons of other hotels in NYC so go try them instead of The Iroquois.

Booked two , non-smoking rooms, one double and one queen on 5th floor. Their 2nd floor has some smoking rooms, fyi. The entire stay was fantastic. TEach and every member of the staff was exceptionally professional and politely personable. Beds, linens, bath were impeccably appointed, very clean. I booked on-line using the hotel's website and found a better, summer rate than on the travel websites I usually use. While the hotel was perfect, our meals at the Triomphe restaurant were unbelievably delicious. Each bite was heavenly. Hope to go again soon. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We loved this hotel. At $300 a night, it was more than I really wanted to pay, but it turned out to be worth it. For one thing, my husband fell ill and spent a lot of time in the room. It was nice for him to have a comfortable bed, a decent-sized room, and free DVDs to watch. My little boy loved the kid-sized robe and "Batman" bubble bath they gave us. And when I accidentally left my carry-on bag (with crucial stuff like my laptop) in the lobby when we left, the staff found it, figured out it belonged to me, and managed to call our airport-limo driver with enough time for us to turn around, get back to the hotel to fetch the bag, and still get to the airport in time for our international flight. That's good service!! In our five nights at the Iroquois, we found the location excellent, the hotel restaurant superb, the staff friendly and helpful, and the room well-appointed and quiet. The bigger hotels can be more glamorous, but here we felt at home.

My husband and I stayed at the Iroquois for three nights in mid-July. The location, 44th between 5th and 6th, is very convenient the theater while not being in the middle of the craziness of Times Square. Our deluxe room was suprisingly spacious, with a full closet and a large bathroom. We've stayed in several other NYC hotels in similar price range that had microscopic bathrooms, so this was a nice treat. The bed was comfortable and the towels and bathrobes were very plush.

The lobby is quite small, but there is a nice library with free newspapers and a computer and printer (nice for printing boarding passes).

This hotel is a great value. Based on our experience with other hotels in New York City, this one is very reasonably priced, yet the rooms are upscale.

We stayed in an executive king room during our stay at the Iroquois last spring. Beautiful room in great condition. For NYC hotels, it was a decent size and good value. Our bathroom was a good size as well. The room was on the street side which gave good light, but a lot of traffic noise (especially on garbage pickup night.) But at this hotel it's either noise or a dark room! Our only complaint was a strong smell of cigarette smoke one night. We were told it was a nonsmoking floor. The front desk sent someone up (very responsive) but he could not locate the source of the smoke (??) We think it was coming under an adjoining room's door. A wet towel under the door solved the problem. All in all, this is a really nice hotel for the price and a great location.

My husband and I stayed at the Iroquois for 3 nights. We thought the hotel was a very good value at $300.00 a night for a deluxe room. The room was nicely decorated, very clean, and in great condition with flat screen wall mounted tv and very comfortable bed. The location couldnt be beat with only 2 blocks to Times Square. The staff was friendly and did everything imaginable to please. We did not like the pillows provided but when we ask for different pillows, two memory form pillows were quickly delivered to the room. The drawbacks are the size of the rooms and baths- they are small. The halls are narrow. There is not much to the lobby. There are two elevators and while they were a little slow we did not encounter any significant delays. We did find in our mini bar two opened and partially consumed beverages but they were removed promptly when we called the attention of the front desk. All in all a good experience.

I loved staying in this small Hotel with friendly understated service. The room was of a high standard with a great bathroom and downstairs there was a small but comfortable library which was a useful resource, with a pc for guests use. Located in W44th just off 5th avenue The Iroquois was only a walk from everywhere I needed to go.
Perhaps the best feature was the outstanding small resteraunt in the Hotel but with its own entrance from the street, or access from the hotel lobby. Triomph - this not only had some of the best food I've eaten in a restaurant but also a good selection of well priced wines with a good choice availble by the glass. Again the service is friendly and understated.
If you are going to New York on business or pleasure and want a quiet hotel to retreat to then I would recommend the Iroquois.
My only criticism is I would have liked a kettle in the room - I'd rather make my own tea when I'm out of England......

  • Liked — Peaceful and Friendly
  • Disliked — No kettle in roon
