“Fantastic Hotel and Staff”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

I always use Tripadvisor to help me choose my hotel when going on holiday. I certainly didn't go wrong with this hotel! From the point of arrival, the staff were professional but friendly and helpful. Our room (610) was immediately opposite the two lifts, but we never heard a noise throughout our week in this little piece of heaven. The room was spacious, the bathroom well stocked with large white fluffy towels and the fridge (which we kept stocked with water, fruit and the odd bottle of beer!) was a welcome sight each evening after an action packed day. The housekeeping staff keep the whole hotel immaculate and our room was cleaned every day. My husband used the gym on several occasions and complimented the equipment and facilities within the gym area. I used the media room which was well stocked - 3 computers, printer, tv, pinball machines and a gizmo which will recharge just about anything!! Well located on the Upper West Side and the booking we had included breakfast at the Cafe Viand, two streets away and an absolute gem of a place (see my separate review). Be warned, this is an old building so doesn't have air conditioning 'built in' to the room. It's a unit fitted to the window which we found too noisy to run through the night. We would love to return to NYC and the Hotel Belleclaire will definitely be the place to stay.

Room Tip: Although we didn't have much of a view out of our small window, room 610 is really large with a...

It's my first time at the Belleclaire but definitely not the last!
First of all the location is crazy. On my last visits in NYC I stayed next to the Times Square and it was always noisy and super crowded that a 5 minutes' walk turn to be 20. There are really good shops around the hotel, its 2 minutes' walk from the subway ,the hotel is close to the park and to a really nice bars in Amsterdam St.
The room was just in the right size and not that small like in other hotels, everything was very clean and nice, and the nights were quite. There was a little noise during the day because the hotel is being renovated, but we were leaving the hotel early in the morning so we didn’t hear it.
On the last day our check out was at 11am but our flight was only at 2am, so during the day our luggage was in storage, and when we came back to take it the really nice bell boy gave us the keys to the gym so we could take a shower before the flight, which was really amazing!
We had a really great time, and it's definitely worth the money even though you can find cheaper places to stay in.

It was difficult to select a decent hotel in NYC as there are so many. We decided to stay here after reading many good reviews. The best aspect is the location. Just next to Broadway, 10min walk from Central Park & Museum of natural history, 79th st subway which takes 10min to Times Sq, plenty of places to get breakfast, loads of restaurants on Amsterdam Ave.

It's definitely no more than a 3* hotel though. I know it's in New York but the price per night was too high in respect of the quality. Although the room was big and the bed was comfortable, it felt dated (but yes it's an old building), the a/c was unbearably loud but thankfully we managed to sleep without it during the night. I was told by reception that they are in the process of replacing all the old a/c units with central a/c system which should be complete in 2014.

Wifi included although I've had better wifi connections in little motels in the middle of nowhere! Sometimes it didn't even work as the network couldn't log me on as there were too many users...

Bathroom was decent except the shower which is probably due an upgrade.

Worst bit til last: found a big cockroach in the closet! We managed to kill it after the housekeeper gave us some insect killer spray... pretty grim though...

Overall satisifed with our 7 night stay, but will probably stay somewhere else next time we visit NYC.

A friend and I stayed at the Belleclaire for 3 nights in late July. The location was great, a short walk to Central Park and the subway station. The hotel has a historic feel (nice exterior look and narrow halls) but the rooms and lobby are updated and very clean. I was expecting a tiny room so I was actually pleasantly surprised with the amount of space in the room. The air conditioning unit was a little loud but worked well and kept the room cool all night. Staff was friendly and helpful with directions.

We (me, husband, teenage son) have now stayed at the Belleclaire twice, and will probably do so again. It's a great location on the Upper West Side, very close to the subway, the park, Zabars, the original Carmine's, and a lot of little restaurants on Amsterdam Ave.--some of which are quite good. The hotel is historic, which translates to a lot of charm and rooms on the small side, but our room on this trip (two double beds) fit the three of us quite comfortably. The bathroom was small but perfectly adequate.
Staff are friendly if not effusive, but hey, that's pretty good for New York, right?

Dear JB-in-SB,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience at the Hotel Belleclaire! The exceptional quality of personal service and amenities are the hotel’s signature approach. We provide complimentary high speed wi-fi access, a mini refrigerator in each guest room, game room with over 10,000 arcade style games and 27-inch MAC computers, C.O. Bigelow bath amenities, and 24 hour access to the fitness center and media lounge to name a few. In addition to our newly renovated and pristine lobby and guest rooms, all bathrooms will feature newly renovated and modern floor to ceiling glass enclosed showers, tasteful espresso vanities, and a splash of white stonewash tiles.

With steps away to the subway station, our location offers easy access to various main attractions and locations throughout NYC. Take a walk through the picturesque Central Park, dine at a world class gourmet restaurant, let music fill your ears at Lincoln Center and top off the night with delicious cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop.

We were delighted to accommodate your reservation needs and look forward to your future stay at Hotel Belleclaire!

The Belleclaire is a great find on the upper west side, having recently completed major renovations to all parts of this 100 + year old hotel. You cannot beat it for location. The staff are all very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Rooms are NYC sized, but you have the options of parlor suite, king beds, etc. so ask when booking. Nothing is cheap in NYC, but the Belleclaire puts you in walking distance of many great NYC attractions and one block from the subway, so everything is easily accessible. Central Park, Museum of Natural History, Museum Mile, and the West Side River Park all within walking distance. Jump on their mailing list for special rate offers throughout the year. Central heating and air coming soon as well. (yes the old steam radiators and window mounted air conditioners can be annoying.....)

Room Tip: Go for upper floors, facing either the river or 77th street, avoid Broadway facing rooms for noise

This is a great hotel on the Upper West Side. The Staff is friendly and very accomodating. Location is convenient to many restaurants, Central Park and even markets for shopping. Regarding the rooms: I will say that our room was small but we were still comfortable, the windows are tinted which gives the atmosphere that it is very dark outside - I prefer things a little brighter. I also noticed that the carpets often appeared to need vacuumed which is the reason for the average rating on cleanliness.
