“Great location, nice staff”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

We selected this hotel from a discounted hotel site. While it was not the cheapest available, the price was very good for NYC in tourist season and we particularly wanted to stay in the upper westside area. Upon arrival, I mentioned to Juan at the front desk that we were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and we were upgraded to a larger room and provided with vouchers for breakfast. We loved the location, quiet and convenient to the park, museaums, and Lincoln Center. Brittany and Juan were especially helpful. The rooms are small but as frequently noted in other reviews...that's NYC.

Dear Marla_gm,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience at the Hotel Belleclaire! The exceptional quality of personal service and amenities are the hotel’s signature approach. We provide complimentary high speed wi-fi access, a mini refrigerator in each guest room, game room with over 10,000 arcade style games and 27-inch MAC computers, C.O. Bigelow bath amenities, and 24 hour access to the fitness center and media lounge to name a few. In addition to our newly renovated and pristine lobby and guest rooms, all bathrooms will feature newly renovated and modern floor to ceiling glass enclosed showers, tasteful espresso vanities, and a splash of white stonewash tiles.

With steps away to the subway station, our location offers easy access to various main attractions and locations throughout NYC. Take a walk through the picturesque Central Park, dine at a world class gourmet restaurant, let music fill your ears at Lincoln Center and top off the night with delicious cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop.

We were delighted to accommodate your reservation needs and look forward to your future stay at Hotel Belleclaire!

This is a beautiful old hotel which has recently been renovated and is very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room we had (called the Broadway King) is a bit larger than some of our other family members, and well worth the bit extra. The rooms are small, but that's typical of NYC. It's located in a great neighborhood, near Central Park and Riverside Park, very easy to get to the midtown sights. The price is reasonable. I would definitely recommend this hotel. I gave 4 stars to "sleep quality" because of the street noise, not because of the hotel!

Room Tip: For a couple, the Broadway King room is very nice.

Dear jawjagrl,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful stay at the Hotel Belleclaire!

I’m delighted to read your comments regarding our Broadway King accommodations, the appraisal of our team, the value, the cleanliness, services, and I know our staff will be equally pleased to learn of your kind remarks and recognition of their efforts. I notice as well your mention about the nice renovation of our lobby and the convenient location of our hotel. Is true that it's conveniently located a few blocks from Central Park and the best museums in NY City and far from the chaos of shopping crowds in midtown.

We certainly look forward to welcoming you back in the near future at the Belleclaire! It will be our pleasure to have another opportunity to show you the gracious hospitality and superb service. Please feel free to contact our reservations department at 1-877-468-3522 or reservations@hotelbelleclaire.com.

We are a family of 4 and we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Belleclaire. The room was small but we had a great walk-in closet. The bathroom was new and sunny and the flat screen tv was a nice touch. I found the hotel to be very charming and the staff was attentive. The lobby was very pretty. They have excellent computers and a printer available and although we didn't use the fitness room, it seemed very nice. The Wifi was free and worked well. My favourite part about this hotel was the location. I felt like a real New Yorker as opposed to a tourist. We were able to play frisbee in Central Park and take the subway everywhere. There is ambient noise in the hotel room because of traffic but that's part of NYC's charm. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed overnight for a wedding. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Clean comfortable small room. Quiet hotel. Plenty of free parking available nearby (read the signs). The price paid was reasonable for NYC. Would definitely consider this property in the future.

After LOTS of hotel research in NYC we decided on the Belleclair and I was so glad we did. It is a historic hotel in the Upper Westside, under renovation. About a $38.00 cab ride from LaGuardia The area is safe. The lobby is beautiful. There were 3 of us and we had a room with 2 double beds and a large window facing Broadway. Amazingly the "double" beds were rather large, and very comfortable. The room was rustic/ art deco, with hardwood floors. Plenty of space with no complaint about where to put luggage or clothing. About 40 channels on the tv. Wifi is iffy, sometimes slow, but pretty steady. Staff was friendly and helpful. 2 blocks from Subway.Great break after a long day in the city. Lots of gourmet markets nearby. Europan Deli around the corner was awesome!! It was all perfect for our needs. I can't imagine finding a better hotel for the price. No doubt we will book it again when staying in New York City.

The Belleclaire bucks the trend of over-priced NYC hotels. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and upgraded. The front desk staff is well trained. Computer room is modern and well situated. The subway is two blocks from the front door. Times Square is 15 minutes away. All in all, a find in Upper Manhattan.

Room Tip: Make reservations early and ask for the Columbia University rate.

Good clean hotel, rooms on the smaller size so not much room to move around. Next to the subway station (2 stations closeby - 79th St and the 72nd St, lines 1-3) so going downtown takes about 25-30 mins. If you want to to be close to the main centre (i.e. Times Square, Soho, East Village etc) you are better off staying closer to downtown as the trains (with the transfer do take a bit of time to get to these main attractions). It takes longer to get to Brooklyn so if you plan on spending a bit of time in Brooklyn, you are better off staying at the lower Manhattan part.

The hotel is walking distance to the Central Park and Natural History Museum. LGA airport about 30 mins away (can ride is about $40 with tips). ShakShack, CoffeeBean and other restaurants nearby (very good place to grab a nice breakfast), as well as fresh fruit and veg market shop and also some good clothes stores very closeby. No breakfast restaurant in the hotel - they do have CoffeBean cafe downstairs at the lobby so you can grab tea/coffee and breakfast.

My only complaints are:
- The AC was very noisy and didn't really work so the room was very hot during the nights
-The room is quite small and the toiletries they provided is very limiting (i.e. no cotton buds, etc)
- Bit pricey for the location (would have been happy to pay the same price if it had been a bit closer to downtown)
