We were upgraded but the rooms were very good value at £78 a night. Nice big bed and the bathroom was clean, shower head was a bit strange and needed fixing Service as you would expect in New York was great. Lovely little boutique place with some great restaurants and bars very close.

For me the core of the Big Apple is the Lincoln Center rather than Times Square, so I am always looking for good, reasonably-priced hotels on the Upper West Side. I know of several up towards the higher end of Central Park, but from there it is a fairly long way down into central Manhattan. So Hotel Belleclaire looked like an attractive option. The hotel surpassed my expectations... the room was larger and cleaner and the bed more comfortable than at most NY hotels I have stayed in. The staff was pleasant and helpful. No breakfast, but that is not a problem since there are several places to eat just around the corner. And the location is wonderful. The area has a good number of restaurants and shops, it was an easy walk for me to the Lincoln Center and it is also a good base if you are going to the theater district. And if you are interested in the Metropolitan Museum, it is a pleasant walk straight across Central Park. So long as they don't put their prices up, I shall certainly be staying here again!

My sister and I checked in for a girls vacation in NYC. We stayed one night. The check in was very pleasant and courteous. The room was clean and pretty but had a very strong chemical smell. We called the front dek who offered to move us and told us the smell would dissipate in 10 minutes. The smell did stop after about 20 minutes. The beds were very comfortable. It was a very cold night in January but the room was warm after we got back from a Broadway play. We turned the radiator off. However, we were very warm even with the radiator cold to the touch. At 3am, after both of us couldn't sleep, we called the front desk. We wanted to turn on the air conditioner but we couldn't get the casing open. They sent the bellman who also could not get the casing for the ac unit open. They advised us to open the window which we did but all in all, not an ideal situation. The towels were very large and soft in the bathroom. If we could have adjusted the room temperature, I would have given 4 stars but the heat kept us awake and we should have been able to adjust the room temperature. The staff was quick to help with directions and we enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the lobby. In my opinion, the front desk should have offered us something given the bad conditions in the room which made it difficult to sleep.

Stayed here two nights in January and had a wonderful experience. The price was a steal. The rooms were clean and modern with a touch of old elegance. The room was equipped with some bottled water and snacks and a great view. Even the hallways had that pretty old ambiance to them. Concierge was very helpful and all the Front Desk Staff were amazingly nice. There was a convenient business center to print out those last minute tickets. The lobby still needs some work and I look forward to when they finish it, a nice little lounge area for an evening glass of wine would be great. There are tons of great restaurants and bars just a block or two away and it's a really nice little area. The only negative aspect would be the walls are paper thin, but once in the room we didn't hear much. And the lack of a lounge area...but that looks like it will get fixed eventually.

Room Tip: Corner rooms in the front are fantastic!

I recently stayed at the Hotel Belleclaire while visiting the city, going to broadway shows, shopping, etc. This hotel is perfectly located on the corner of Broadway on the Upper West Side, very close to lot's of shopping, beautiful walks in the city and thousands of outstanding restaurants nearby. The staff are incredible and the rooms are exceptionally clean and detailed. This is a five star experience that offers great value when compared to others in it's class. I'd highly reccomend to anyone visiting the city for either leisure or business travel.

Room Tip: Can't go wrong with any of them!

This was the second time I've used the Belleclaire. Last year I was astonished at the price, and then got upgraded to a suite on check-in. £85 for a suite in the upper west side! Amazing.

This time I didn't have the same luck, and I nearly didn't recognise the hotel as they have had their lobby renovated to a much larger, open, pleasant space. Check in staff were just as friendly as ever, and weren't phased by the two nights I was staying being through two different booking agents. I was put in a decent sized room on the 1st floor.

As before the beds were comfy, the internet was useably quick and the login worked on as many devices as you needed. Shower was good pressure, and there was AC, which surreally was necessary despite it being the winter. Surreally I think this was the only hotel room I have ever had where there was no wardrobe.

The only downside was the plumbing. An incredibly loud clanging at 6 am, seriously, like someone hitting the radiator with a hammer. Quite astonishing. It didn't phase me as I was just up anyway, and the front desk promised to have it investigated, so I wouldn't let it put you off.

And the price this time? £65 a night. With that sort of price available if you shop around, in a convenient and safe location, near the subway and with Central Park 5 minutes walk away, you'd be mad not to. Astonishing.

Caveat: My first hotel experience in NY. Overall really nice staff. Great lemon water in lobby, though not much of a lobby. Only downside is thin walls and room size. But, if you are in new york, why sleep. Felt safe in the location, and it wasn't too terribly overcrowded. Lot's of places to walk to. Close to parks and 24 hours vendors.
