I stayed at the 6 Columbus hotel during Hurricane Sandy. When I tried to extend my stay
while the hurricane was still going on, I was offered a rate nearly 3 times what I had just
paid. Instead I had to head out into the storm and try to find another hotel. I understand
that the hurricane created challenges for many hotels, but this uncaring approach was
just not acceptable, when the airports are closed and you are stranded.
Also, they closed the hotel restaurant, Blue Ribbon Sushi and only offered room service.
The only problem with this is that even a simple breakfast would cost a fortune, and
there were few alternatives. Rather than New Yorkers trying to pull together through a
tough situation, this felt like the usual short-term ripoff approach that some short
sighted managers take.
I normally like this hotel and their location, but this experience just left a bad taste
in my mouth. I had some great experiences of hotels and restaurants helping me out
during a difficult time during the hurricane, but this wasn't one of them.More
