“Godd stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2013

Washington Square Hotel is a great choice for those who look for a confortable stay. I stayed here for two nights and was quite happy. The rooms are small but I didn't have any problems with it. Very good staff and a great location!!!!

We stayed for 7 nights in this hotel. Our room was not on the side of the street, which helped a lot to reduce the noise. The room was very clean and suited all our needs. Bathroom was great, also very clean and a good shower. The location is fantastic, located in/near lovely neighbourhoods in greenwich/soho. Also near the metro station. Buffet breakfast is continental, i.e. not very elaborate but sufficient and they have great fresh fruit and toasted bagels. For a little extra money you can get additional breakfast dishes which are very(!) tasty. In short, would not hesitate to stay here again.

Let me say first that the reviewers bothered because their rooms are small miss the point, which is that this is an old-fashioned, European-style hotel. Your room is not to hide in, spend the day in, eat dinner in. Your room is to sleep in, make love in, shower in. Otherwise, it's assumed you're out and about, walking in Washington Square Park, or writing postcards from a bistro table while sipping on a real espresso.
This is a marvelously upgraded hotel - and one of the few I've stayed in where the Internet always works. Beautiful location - easy to catch he subway or a cab, Washington Square Park just steps away. And unlike many of the hotels in New York, the staff are well-trained, kind, and thoughtful. I was so very happy staying here. I really felt like I'd stepped into the "real" New York. I avoid Midtown like the plague now, and the Upper West Side is pretty chi-chi without much to back it up. But the Village is still the Village, filled with bistros, coffee shops, and ancient chess players who'll still charge you a pretty low fee for the challenge of playing them.
The WSH also has one of the best-kept breakfast secrets in New York - lox and bagel and cream cheese on a platter with all the fixings for under $10.00. Impossible to beat!

Room Tip: See if you can get a room that will let you see the park.

I stayed in this hotel for a business trip in April 2013. My room was a small one but it was enough for one person. The room was very clean and the building is well maintained. The lobby is tastefully decorated so are the rooms. I only wish there were a study table in the room, at least a small one. The wi-fi works well in the room and they placed two ipads in the lobby for the guests. The breakfast was great and the coffee in the room is a high quality selection. I think there should be more signs showing where the breakfast room is.

Stayed three nights. The location is really excellent - adjacent to Washington Square and easy access to Chelsea and Soho. The room was clean, modern, and a good size. The only negative about the room was loud air con.

Room housekeeping: waited until 5pm one day and then very poor job.

Staff mixed – some excellent; others ‘grumpy’ and one at Reception simply rude. I had asked for a 1 hour extension on check out when I checked in. That was fine. On the check out day I literally lost track of time. 15 mins after the ‘agreed’ check out time, someone from the front desk called and was particularly aggressive about leaving the room. As it turned out, when I came down to Reception and spoke to another person, they basically said “Don’t worry. We would normally give at least 1hr 45mins after normal check out on request.” They apologised for the approach of the other staff member.

Took the shine off what was otherwise an enjoyable stay in a good hotel.

There are bigger and flashier hotels uptown and midtown i am sure, but if you want to be in the most interesting part of NYC, close to the eclectic mix of retail, food, and residential - from the charm of the West Village to vibrant Soho, Little Italy and TriBeCa, with Chelsea and Gramercy just a stones throw - this reasonably priced hotel is the answer. I dont want luxury when away, just cleanliness, security and comfort and I got all three here. The deluxe room - with a window - is great for 1 and ok for 2, though not a lot of cupboard space. The beds are clean and comfortable, the recently refurbished bathroom provides very acceptable facilities. Add to that free wifi, a decent if not overwhelming breakfast, a good in house restaurant, lots of attention from a great staff ... and did I mention location? ... I rate this hotel very highly. Finally, the icing on the cake....it was unbelievably quiet, meaning undisturbed sleep every night.
