Washington Square Hotel

i stayed in WSH for a week from 29th January this year. Although hotel rooms are small, corridor smaller, my stay was great essentially because of its location and the pleasing personality of its staff. Whenever I needed anything a phone call was enough, housekeeping was great so are the staff doing the housekeeping on a personal touch. The breakfast was good but lacked variety; the serving staff appeared more mechanical though they never faltered on their duty. Some front desk were unimaginatively supportive, responsive and caring. Washington Square is just opposite to the hotel and its a heaven for all morning walkers and joggers. The Empire State and Ground zero are within walking distance. Being in the heart of Manhattan, shops, restaurants, cinema halls are very close too. It is very close to great academic institutes like NYU and The New School. It is also very closely connected to subways and bus lines. If I come to NY again, I will certainly stay in WSH.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms close to main road ; there could be some traffic noise during odd hours

Located right at the corner of Washington Square, the hotel is well located to enjoy the more low-brow delights of NYC. Close to The Village, China Town and at the bottom of 5th Avenue one can venture north or south to enjoy the city. The rooms are adequate - not particulary well decorated and storage space is very limited - more suited to the overnight stay rather than a week or a few days. The breakfast is good and food plentiful - although morning table service varied between courteous and surly over the few days we were there. The concierge is a gem - always smiling, helpful and knowledgeable. Front desk also helpful and efficient. The downstairs bar, which you find by going through a rabbit warren of corridors and stairs (or by going outside and round the corner) is very dark and dingy - but bar service is friendly and prices reasonable. Price - not unreasonable for NYC at New Year but a tad high versus the experience provided.

Room Tip: All the rooms we had on the first upper floor were quiet. Waverley Street / Washington Square is no...

My girlfriend and I live on Long Island and we frequent the city pretty often. We decided to get a hotel room for the night. The location of the hotel is superb. Right in the West Village and walking distance to bars, restaurants, subway, NYU, and Washington Square Park right across the street. We opted to drive into the city that day since we knew we were staying overnight. FYI--DO NOT PAY TO PARK IN THE PARKING GARAGE! I was all set to pay to park when i realized that there was tons of street parking. Theres no parking during the week tho, but on saturdays and sundays theres no charge to park on the street. The hotel was very clean, our room was not noisy at all, and the overall size of the room was very comfortable and enjoyable. They had free WiFi, and a restaurant and bar in the hotel. Price was also very reasonable. We saved money by booking and paying a head of time online.

just back from my second stay there .. it's perfectly located, within a few meters from the metro, between 5/6th avenue, greenwich area, their inclusive continental breakfast is good and gets u started for the day and i love their orange juice (contrary to one review i just read on TA) .. i was in room 807 (comfortable twin beds) this time, the room is smallish, but has a hairdryer, iron, umbrella, safe, tea, coffee facility, shampoo, etc. incl. of continental breakfast .. the staff are friendly, they help when asked, otherwise leave u alone and the room is clean and the beds/pillows comfortable .. on yes and free wi-fi included everywhere in the hotel !!!

the hotel location is quiet (for nyc), but the room walls are very thin, u have to be aware of that .. u will hear the people next door, but in my experience u do in most hotels .. the crack around the door bugged me a bit, it was so large that light came in all night and the opening faces u as u lie in bed .. nyc was cold in jan 2013, but the heating was very powerful and i had to put it down (hard to get a comfortable temperature) ..

this hotel is perfect for my budget and location, location, location !!! i don't go to a hotel for the view in particular, i go for a rest and a clean-up and it does what it says and for nyc the price is acceptable ..

Room Tip: ask for a quiet room on a higher floor

The good: Convenient if you need to be at NYU, with friendly and professional service, a perfectly fine room which was spotlessly clean (and large by New York City standards), and a Continental breakfast included in the room rate.

The bad: So much street noise, mostly from people shouting and carrying on outside well into the wee hours, that although I got up and put my earplugs in, I could still hear it. Even my husband, who normally doesn't notice ANYTHING, remarked that it was too noisy and that he'd been awakened by the racket. Noise from garbage or construction trucks in the morning was also very audible. The windows are woefully deficient in soundproofing qualities.

The conclusion: Expect noise, particularly drunken college students (I assume) outside the hotel, to make it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Buy earplugs if you forget to bring them

Although this was convenient for our needs this trip, I wouldn't return.

This is a boutique-style hotel in The Village, close to NYU and Washington Square Park. The neighborhood is fun and safe. We stayed one night on a Thursday. The temps were below 20 degrees Fahrenheit outside, so there were very few people walking around nearby. The hotel seemed clean, as well as the room, which was small, but adequate for two people with a one-night stay. The continental breakfast consisted of fruit, yogurt, bagels (toaster was nearby), other breakfast breads, cold cereal, coffee, juice, milk. Checking in and out was quick, and the doorman was friendly and helpful. The hotel was close to a music venue we were going to so the location was just perfect.

Arrived Saturday January 19 and had a drink in the Bar. The staff were excellent. Very cheerful and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. We felt very safe and relaxed while in the Hotel. Sunday morning we went down to the restaurant for breakfast which was very good and reasonable. There is a large park directly across the street. We were down for my brother in laws premiere "Brief Reunion". He was the Director of Photography for the film.
