“The location was great, the hotel, not so much”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

The location of the hotel was fantastic, we could wake up in the morning and go for a walk around Central Park before breakfast which was great. The hotel wasn't as fantastic. The price is affordable because there is nothing special about the hotel. The rooms are very small, the beds uncomfortable and the shower was either too hot, lukewarm or cold. The elevator isn't very fast and got stuck during our stay. No views from the room. Hotel staff weren't very friendly and seemed to let anyone through. At least with a hotel room like this you spend most of your time out and about.

What a sad hotel. The Park Savoy is basically a marginally clean place to spend a night....if you can get your bag in the room. My room was the smallest hotel room I have ever had. There was about 4 square feet of open space. The rest of the room was the full size bed and a chair and table. The window shade was broken. If I HAD gotten it open I would have seen....a wall. Just a wall. Nothing else. The bathroom had been remodeled in the last ten years and is the only reason this is not a one-star rating. The shower was tiny, but functional and there was even a washcloth. The hotel has no amenities...but it has a good location which is the only reason why they can command these prices or why anyone would stay there. If you are only there to sleep, then book it. Otherwise I would look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Try to get a view if something other than a wall.

Wonderful location a block away from Central Park, the hotel was a bit old, outdated, and a bit shoddy... the beds are a little short if you are a large person. However, the rate is $135 up front, and they leave you alone. The elevator is super old, and doesn't work that well, but for the value you can't beat it. I literally was in the room to sleep, and have a place to keep my stuff. They don't have free wifi if that is a big deal, but overall I would stay again if I needed a hotel again as usually i stay with friends.

On booking checked feedback some gave a grim report making me think what have I booked, but on checking in found entrance hall and desk clean and no bad smells as one report stated, staff seemed friendly and polite. Elevator a bit small and slow, but working. Room faced front eight floor overlooking Marriott Hotel, room very clean, small double bed ample storage for small break, bathroom with small sink, toilet and shower all very clean, complimentary toiletries good plus spare toilet roll, sheets and towels clean. Stayed there three nights no problems. As a small budget hotel in New York great value and would recommend to others after all your in The Big Apple to see it not stay in your hotel I would think 10/10

We recently stayed here for 3 nights and overall had a good stay. The rooms are very basic and small, but clean. We found our room to be quiet and beds were comfy enough. The rooms could use some updating, but were sufficient for our stay. We spend most of the days exploring the city and only used the room for sleeping anyways.

The location is fantastic within a few minute walk of central park and easy access to several subway lines. There are lots of restaurants nearby.

We found that the staff was not overly friendly, but the service was adequate.

The price for rooms are very reasonable considering hotels in the area and the fact that the room has a private bath and includes a very basic breakfast (coffee and choice of bagel or muffin). We saved over $100 per night over staying here as opposed to other hotels in NYC.

Just be aware that there is construction going on in front of the hotel and can be quite noisy. We started each day fairly early, so it did not affect us, but it is something to consider.

If you are looking for a basic but reasonable hotel, this will fit the bill

Stay away from this place! The localization is really good, but the hotel is awful! Considering that accommodation is very expensive in NYC, its price for a room with private bathroom in such area sounded like a miracle. Now we know why. The hotel smells really bad from the moment you get to the elevator - which necessarily goes to down to the stinky basement every time you try to go up. We stayed there for a week, but we felt like they never properly cleaned the room. Changing towels is not cleaning a room. In fact, I can almost guarantee that the duvet was washed for the last time in the last century. Our room was also very noisy. Last but not least, the place is quite unsafe. The room's door didn't lock properly, and it felt like the people at the reception didn't really care about who was going in and out.

I was very skeptical about staying a midtown property at this price.
But I was totally happy about this property.
The pluses were:
1) The price is cheap
2) The location is outrageously good. two blocks from Central Park.
3) It was clean
4) Competent Maid service everyday
5) private, not shared bath
6) Employees not overly friendly but helpful
7) a complimentary simple breakfast included

the negatives were:
1) The room was small, with no view
2) The room was only big enough for a double bed

There were a lot of international travelers at this property. I enjoyed this as foreigners tend to complain less and knew that this was a bargain property. They were happy to hold our bags before and after checking in and out of the hotel. The elevator was slow but didn't mind as we were happy to walk to our room. Also they were happy to bring your bags to and from your room. if you don't mind walking you can get to a lot of the major attractions without using public transportation. I felt that I got more than I paid for.

Overall, I was very pleased with my experience and would recommend the Park Savoy to anyone not expecting luxury accomodations, but rather simple pleasures.
