“great location but horrible sofa bed even for teens”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

This is a great location but the cleanliness of the bathroom and the extremely poor quality of the second bed (a sofa bed) made me question the value for money. The room should have been cleaner and all the beds should have been comfortable.

My family has been to NY four times and has stayed at Doubletree every visit after our first. We stayed in another hotel our first visit-and it ruined our trip! Believe me, the hotel in NYC makes or breaks your trip due to location and safety. Doubletree has both. PERFECT location-absolute middle of everything! Walking distance of subways, Broadway, Rockefeller Center, etc. Safest location to be any hour of the day. The hotel itself is great. Clean with comfy beds. Big bathroom with extra sink in the living room. Very comfortable full sized rollaway bed is available for $25 a night, which made accommodating my teenage children's sleeping arrangements easy. Great views from the rooms are an added bonus. Would highly recommend staying here!

Stayed here during our first visit to New York. Hotel location was great - felt like you were in the middle of everything. And loved that the subway was just across the street. Rooms were spacious and clean. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because they told us they could do gluten free food. And they did - we got gluten free pancakes every morning. They even had a little gluten free menu for lunch and dinner. Loved this hotel and we would absolutely stay here again!

I made my Christamas holidays in new York City and I stayed for several nights at Double Tree Suits Hilton. The location is very good - very central in manhattan. Almost everything is reachable walking. Big rooms with a very good service.

I recently stayed at the hotel on business. After a long day, rather than going out to a restaurant, decided on room service. I called room service, ordered my meal and asked for a particular type of wine that was not on the room service menu. I told the person on the phone that I knew the wine I wanted was available at the hotel bar. Without hesitation ARTURO said they would stop at the bar and get the wine I wanted. Arturo did not make me feel like I was putting him out of his way by making a special request. I really appreciated the fact that Arturo made my preference a priority. The next evening, Arturo was the person who delivered my meal to me. I expressed my gratitude. His response to that was something akin to: It's our job to make our guests comfortable. The staff at this hotel make me feel special and I thank them for that. I will most definitely refer this hotel to my family, friends and clients.

Room Tip: If you don't like feeling like it's daytime in the middle of the night, close the curtains...

Second time staying here and already have our third trip booked.
Awesome location overlooking Time Square. Cookies upon check-in (and almost anytime you ask for one).
Nice and helpful staff.
Rooms are suites so perfect for traveling with kids.

We stayed at the Doubletree Suites – New York Times Square for four nights during a leisure trip. This was our third trip to New York City. The last two times we stayed at Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn a few blocks away on 8th, so this location still felt very familiar to us.

The check in process was quick and efficient, though the first room they gave us was a low floor near the elevator. (Exact opposite of my profile). They corrected this for us once we went back down to the front desk.

Most of the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful, though they were frequently understaffed leading to waits. We went to the concierge a couple of times and the service ranged from okay, to downright incorrect. (bad subway directions related to closures that they should have known about if they took the time to do their job made us late for a commitment). There were cookies available in the lobby any time you asked. Our first night, July 3, the hotel was offering hand made ice cream sandwiches with their cookies (a holiday treat they said).

Since we were walking around New York alot, we did not check out the fitness center. You enter the hotel off Broadway to a small security area where they check your room card. The security staff was always friendly and welcoming. You get some nice peace from the hustle of Times Square as soon as you walk in. The main lobby had the front desk, bell stand, concierge, and a bar. You then take an elevator to the main lobby on the third floor, and transfer to the room elevators. The bar claims evenings are adults only, but that was for sure not the case. Usually more kids than adults, even at the bar top! Why have the sign with the rules if its not enforced?

The hotel restaurant, Gingers is located on the 5th floor. For HHonors Gold and Diamond members the full breakfast was included, which is nice touch since all they are required to offer is the continental breakfast. Though the breakfast was free to us, it was something like $30 per person if you were paying....walk a block or so and grabbing a better breakfast elsewhere. (many diners nearby). The service from the waiters was always subpar, multiple requests for basic things, and long waits for these things. There was almost always a wait to get a table, which I strongly feel would not be the case if they took care of the guests faster and thus turned over the tables faster. The only shining star of the experience was the Omelets / Pancake chef. They tried hard and were very friendly. That being said they were overworked, due to the fact that they were running kitchen orders as well.

The room we had was a very nice two room suite, separate bedroom and large bathroom. The bedroom had a king size bed, ottoman, wardrobe, and HDTV in the bedroom. In the living room there is a couch, chair, and desk, HDTV, wet bar, mini fridge, and microwave. The room is huge for New York. The room had an excellent climate control system and the AC blower can be left on for white noise. The rooms were spotless, smelled fresh and had nice pillows (feather as well as foam). The only weak point of the room, the curtains do not do a very good job of blocking out the light because they do not close all the way to the wall. (Bright lights of Broadway as well as daylight) . We had nearly no noise from the city on the 28th floor. The view of the M & M store video was awesome from our room.

Housekeeping did an excellent job. Our housekeeper Lusa was a highlight of the stay! Always friendly, and very accommodating to guests. She takes pride in the fact that the 28th floor is HER floor! She was always willing to work around our schedule. Willie at the front desk also deserves mention for always being a smiling face when we came in each evening. Other than the restaurant and concierge, all staff ranged from very good to excellent.

Within a few blocks you have every type of dining and entertainment option you could ask for, all within easy walking distance. Due yourself a favor and get away from the chains of Times Square and head across 8th....you are a block from Hells Kitchen for great dining. Central Park, Times Square, Broadway Theatres, multiple subway lines, Fifth Avenue, Diamond District, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center,etc....all within a very easy walk.

We would absolutely recommend this location and would stay here again if we wanted to stay in the area for a personal trip. Room rates seemed a tad higher than other locations, but the size of the rooms makes it appropriate for the area, especially with our corporate discount. I can see how this would be a great option for a family of four. Having also stayed at the nearby Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn in the past, I would feel comfortable choosing either of these hotels based on who has the best price at the time. All of these are very nice options and similar in their offerings.

Room Tip: High Floor. If Times Square frontage is not important, you get larger rooms on the side of the hotel...
