“Very comfy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013

This hotel may not be what NYC is all about but it is cheap and very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and will help you with anything and everything. The beds are big and comfortable and the rooms are big and clean. You are asked if you want a room on the busy front of the hotel or in the quiet back. The choice is yours. The breakfast are $10 each extra a day so can work out expensive as it is only a continental style breakfast. There are plenty of other options around as the hotel is situated around lots of eateries. You are just a 5 minute walk from Central Park and a 15-20 minute walk from the Rockerfella Centre. Midtown is also within walking distance so make sure you take your walking shoes. All in all I would go back to this hotel and would definately recommend staying there.

Room Tip: All rooms are very spacious and clean so it's up to you back or front?

Totally enjoyed our stay at the Salisbury Hotel. Great location to stay for the NY Marathon. Close to the Finish Line and convenient access from either of the airports via the Metro/bus. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Comfortable beds and large rooms. The microwave and refridgerator was conveient. Good showers and lots of hot water. Clean. Great location for restaurants and sight seeing. Not the greatest TV reception but then, who stays in the hotel to watch TV while in new York City. WiFi was not included but also not that expensive and extra. There was a lot of street noise on Saturday night but then that would be likely in that location.

I really enjoyed my stay. Beds're very comfy, the suite's very roomy for the 3 of us, clean rooms; clean bathrooms, hallways & lobby. The location's very accessible for many places in Midtown. The continental breakfast's nice. I must applaud the housekeeping staff: namely, Rodney (the manager), Bertha, Mavis & others who helped me, in the search for my forgotten cell phone charger. Not once did they get impatient with me, as I many many calls, asking them to check the room (once it's vacated) for this item. I'd full schedules, extending from that evening to the next day; so, there's no wonder that I forgot the charger when I checked out. The 1st positive thing's that the staff turned it in when cleaning the room, then the staff helped me retrieve it-from housekeeping to the front desk staff. This hotel's staff's exceptional. The trucks in front of the hotel, across the street're somewhat noisy early in the morning; other than that, no complaints.

As a family of 4, we stayed 3 nights in and 1 further night after a weeks cruise.
We had requested a room at the rear of the hotel as we had previously read about the noise levels, which we got on both occasions.
It has to be said the positives about the Salisbury Hotel as we found it were the great location for the main tourist places we wished to visit, although 9/11 memorial & Statue of Liberty would be too far on foot. Also as we needed to get to the cruise port, we were well located. We found the staff especially the concierge guys all very helpful, courteous and friendly. On our return we arrived at the hotel ready to leave our luggage in a safe room but were sent straight upto our room (at 10-20am) also when we checked out the next day, we were allowed to use the room to when we needed to leave (1pm). The fact we could do this was a great help.
The first room we had was a 2 double bedded room with bathroom we were offered a suite upon our return. Had the rooms not been clean I think I may have turned around and gone elsewhere. I felt like I was time travelling back to the 1970's!!! Especially in the bathrooms! I wish now I had taken photos, but take a look at some of the photos posted here and you will see what I mean. Our suite had a blue, shell shaped sink and lighting beyond perspect sheets. But it was all clean, towels & bedding included. It did feel dark and drab within the rooms, maybe because of the dark old furniture. I did have to advise reception that when I tried a lamp it made a sizzling noise which made me wary, it also made me look around more closely noticing what looked like an old air conditioning unit (didn't need to use) and 1 old dusty looking smoke alarm which made me question (as a previous poster also did) what the electrics were like in this building..........
Once we realised there was a fantastic market across the road ( British supermarkets take note, why don't we have shiny apples too?!) to bring things back to our room or eat in the cafe area upstairs in the market, it was a great help for breakfast etc., although the hotel does offer a continental breakfast which we didn't use.
Overall if you are looking at the Salisbury, to us the positives were:
Great location, helpful & friendly staff, clean, fresh market & Starbucks across the road open late too.
Negatives:
THE RETRO DECOR! Desperately in need of some renovation. Questionable electrics?
Do not know if it was good value for money as we didn't have anything to compare it too.
Enjoyed New York! Amazing!

As a family of four we stayed for ten nights from 22 october to 1 november. The room was great, we had a huge living area and a bedroom with 2 double beds, there was lots of storage space and a free safe. We also had a fridge and a microwave.

The room was cleaned daily, the furnishings are dated but for the amount of time spent in the room it does not matter.
We did not try breakfast which is $10 each as there is ample choice within walking distance, the morton williams food store opposite sells amazing food which can be eaten in the store or taken back to the hotel.
This hotel is all about location, amazing all round. The staff are helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again, a totally amazing holiday and a fabulous hotel.

Room Tip: Request a room at the rear of the hotel as the noise from the street can be loud if staying at the f...

Just back from a four night stay in a one bedroom suite. Plenty of room with two queen size beds, a sofa bed in separate living room and a large lobby area. Location was fantastic with numerous subway stations close by and just a short walk to Central Park and 5th Avenue. Our room was at the back of the building and was very quiet at night. However, service was unimpressive, fixtures and fittings all very tired and having to pay for wifi was very frustrating. Coffee provided in the room was dreadful but great 24 hour supermarket and Starbucks just across the road. Worth considering for location, room size and quietness.
