The bad: an old style Holiday Inn harking back in decor perhaps even to the 1970s. The good: its position in Midtown East, quite close to the Lincoln Center, it is clean, and the rooms were competitively cheap. The room was large, the bed was very comfortable, the shower control belonged in a museum (but still worked). Platinum status got me a voucher per night either for a free drink at the bar, or free continental breakfast, the choice for this was muffin OR croissant OR toast, plus juice plus coffee, but the muffins were enormous and quite enough for me. Free wireless.

I would come here again, if the price remained good.

Just returned from a 7day stay at this hotel in NYC. The room was lovely, spacious and the bed most comfortable. Housekeeping was great and friendly, fresh towels every day even though we hung ours up. The gentleman concierge was extremely friendly and helpful, supplying us with maps, directions, tickets etc. Coffee too in the room was delicious! The location is ideal, just a couple of blocks from Central Park and subway. We were on the 15th floor because I asked to be in the north tower and high up, so our bathroom was modern and actually the best we had had on our 3 week tour. What we didn't like was the snooty lady on the front desk, when we arrived to check in for the week, no smile or word of welcome, just the word "Yes?" Another problem for us was the doors slamming during the night, we think its as a result of the strong spring on the doors and guests just walk into their rooms and don't hold the door - just let it slam shut. Fortunately being on the 15th floor we were only disturbed by this a couple of times during the night. We also had an occasion where we had to pick out the cleaning guy who was vacuuming the room next door early one morning and allowing the door to bang continuously but after we spoke to him, there was no further problem. We discovered a super restaurant down 57th towards the river just past 11th Avenue on the right hand side called Hudson Eatery and where we had our dinner most evenings. New, clean, excellent service and very good value for money. Try the cob salad - to die for !! NYC was everything we expected and more - wonderful memories. Would stay at at this hotel again.

Hotel reception staff need to be educated in the meaning of customer people skills. After all hotel guests at the end of the day pay their wages. We were pt in a smoking disabled room at first. We flatly refused, also threaten to walk out & go else where. Two room moves & finally a more acceptable room. The hotel duty managers are most helpful & pleasant however the rude female reception staffer who so poorly checked us into the disabled guest room needs to be sacked. She looked down her nose & refused to accept our priority member card stating " that wont help you here"I reinforced the hotelis a member of the intercontinental group so please scan the card.Upon reflection our stay was ok but the hotel needs a total revamp, smelling carpet, shabby guest areas, filthy walls need painting & limit smoking to outside.

We stayed here from May 3rd until May 6th. The hotel seemed fine and the A/C is on so the room was not hot. We opened the door and the smell was terrible , like a moldy smell. The room was large and the beds comfortable. Once you were in the room you didn't notice the smell. You can hear the doors slamming up and down the hall.
Don't stay in the south tower , (that's were we were) if they send you that way ask to be changed to the north tower. (newer) We found a great restaurant for breakfast at 9th called " The Flame" good food. Bus stops on both sides of West 57th close to hotel and the metro was two blocks up. If you buy a single ride it is only good for bus or for metro but not both. A day pass for $8.25 will let you ride bus or metro all day on either . The bus driver does not take bills you need coins only. NYC was a terrific place to visit lots of fun.
