“Very good choice for us”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

Three sisters and our 80 year old mom stayed together here for four days and found it friendly, comfortable and convenient. We could easily walk to Times Square and other attractions in about 15 minutes and we were right around the corner from 'Hell's Kitchen' with a great variety of affordable and interesting restaurants. The hotel staff were very accommodating - including popping our microwave popcorn in the evening and allowing us a late check-out. The hotel is a little older but it is clean and the room was a good size. Just down the street are a deli and drug store for snacks and other supplies.

The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating - especially Julia Kondratenya who not only provided assistance in advance, but also checked in during our stay to be sure all was well. Our room was good size and comfortable. The only issue with the hotel are the elevators - they are slow and creaky and quite honestly, a little scary. The hotel location is perfect. Just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the theater district - but an easy walk or subway ride. Close to Central Park, Columbus Circle and Carnegie Hall.

The room was large for NYC ( a function of the age of the hotel). The bed was comfy. The bathroom had a tub, something you NEVER see in big cities any more.

The lobby is homely in the way 50 year old buildings can be. One of the elevators wasn't working.

There weren't enough outlets for my needs (old hotel). I managed to get them to bring a 1 to 3 splitter.

Some inebriated woman was yelling in the hall in the middle of the night.

But it was clean, it was close to Columbus Circle and the A line, and it was minutes from Lincoln Center. And it cost less than $200.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights after a week in a 5star resortin Mexico. While it was no comparison to the resort it was perfect for us as we wanted to see as much as possible in a short stay. It's ideally located. Walking distance to Central Park South:8mins, Time Square:13mins, 5th Ave:7mins and all the way down to Battery Park took us 30-40mins down the boardwalk. We are physically fit and did a lot of walking. But you can easily get the subway for$1.45 per subway entry. As some other reviewers had mentioned, this hotel may be in need of a modern overhaul. But don't let these comments be misunderstood to mean the hotel is not clean. Our room was spotless and spacious. With large tv and fast (and free) WiFi. Our linen and towels were changed every morning and our luggage was safe. Although, I had reservations that there was no safe in the room. We didn't eat in the hotel as there are many diners nearby worth trying out Overall this was a good hotel. Bar in main lobby stays open until 1.30am. Concierge atmain entrance is very helpful for travel plans so make full use...plenty of maps available too. If you want luxury, maybe consider another hotel. If you want prime location, clean hotel and helpful staff then this is ideal.

The hotel is currently undergoing a renovation. We were there from a Wed to Sat. They closed the gift shop for renovations on Friday. We requested a renovated room. It was ok, but it did NOT have A/C. Being from Miami, FL this was a big con. Windows only opened about a foot. There isn't an ice machine on every floor. Walking distance from many things. The bed was hard and like a see-saw. If one person gets off one side of the bed, the other side fell. Doors slam so can be a bit noisy.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room away from elevators

Early November and temp outside was 62. Afternoon sun warmed up room to 80 degs. No A\C. Hotel has either heat or A\C but not both. Windows open 6 inches so cant cool down room.

Also sheets are a little rough not soft and smooth.

While $ is cheap for area I won't be back.

This place is nothing out of the ordinary of the usual Holiday Inn. Rather large. Well positioned inb midtown. Walking distance to Central Park (southside) and the metro (Columbus Circle). Breakfast buffet is limited: it suggests more than it really is. So if you stay more than 2 nights it gets rather boring. Did not try the restaurant for dinner, although colleague did and turned out he was the only guest. Plenty of eateries around 9th street. Walking distance to Times square is about 15 min.
Price went up very quickly on the weekend (from 157 to 265 dollar...) so it pays to book well ahead.
Lobby staff can be friendly, if they feel like it. Typically New York.

Room Tip: If you like a lively atmosphere, go for streetside. Otherwise ask for the backside of the building...
