Great hotel. I saw the reviews on Trip Advisor which is why we booked, but we fell in love. Location is absolutely perfect. Staff is great. The wine and cheese in the evening is simply "lovely".
Can't wait to go back.

We booked this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and some friends who had stayed at the sister Hotel Giraffe. We were not disappointed, in fact we were very pleased we had chosen the Elysee. It is a small boutique hotel with 15 floors based on a classic French theme.
Many reviews here praise the complimentary breakfast - and so they should. Unless you insist on a full English every morning there was something here for everyone - cereals, pastries, breads, bagels, muffins, toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and a lovely large bowl of fresh fruit salad - all served by delightful, friendly staff. The clubroom, where the breakfast is served, is on the 2nd floor and has a mixture of tables and chairs and sofas. There is a small library area off to one side which provides extra seating at busy times and also has internet and printing facilities (we used it to print our boarding passes for the flight home).
Having started the day with an ample breakfast, we found the hotel well situated for subway stations and Central Park, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central, Rockefeller, MOMA were all within walking distance.
We also found restaurants for the evening within walking distance from the hotel too - after a full day sightseeing we had run out of steam to venture too far. The Fig and Olive on East 52nd Street was our favourite but Cellini's opposite the hotel was good too.
The staff at the hotel were excellent in a very quiet understated way which we liked. We were brought wine and chocolates to help celebrate our wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch. On arrival we were told we had been upgraded which was lovely too. The room (120) was large and spacious and the bed very comfortable. The room was directly outside the lift on the 12th floor which concerned me at first as I thought we would hear the lift - but we never did!
Returning from a busy day sightseeing it was lovely to be able to have tea, coffee and cake and then a couple of hours later wine and cheese!
We would have no hesitation in booking the Elysee again. We have already recommended it to friends and I am sure we will be back.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room on booking and were allocated Room 120 on the 12th floor. We had no noise...

For many years, when I visited Manhattan, I stayed with my grandmother on the Upper East Side. She lived in a full floor, pre-war cooperative that was as elegant and gracious as it was comfortable and welcoming. She had a staff who managed her home, and doormen who knew every one of the relatives by name. And yes, I knew that I was spoiled. Eventually she sold her apartment and once that happened, I wondered if I could ever come close to recreating any piece of that experience.

I've stayed in dozens of hotels in the city since then, but never found exactly the right spot (at the right price) until now. The Hotel Elysee is it -- a hidden gem tucked into the heart of the city. The warm and personable staff; gracious and well appointed rooms; and thoughtful amenities all combine to create a special experience that mirrors that of my grandmother’s home.

Bedrooms are very well appointed and immaculate, with triple sheeted beds and fluffy comforters. The small touches, like complimentary Belgian chocolate bars and bottled water, full-sized ironing boards and irons, and free Internet are just some of the niceties. (By the way, the number of amenities that are included in the price of the room is staggering and easily saves you $100 in additional costs over a two-night stay.)

There are wonderful nooks and crannies throughout the building, but we especially liked the library, with its overstuffed, comfortable couches and clubby atmosphere. This is the heart and soul of the hotel, where guests gather throughout the day to either enjoy the bountiful breakfast, dig into the bowl of fresh fruit, or sample the wine (red, white, and sparkling) that is accompanied by platters of cheese, veggies, and bowls of nuts. We were so full one evening after our wine and cheese tasting that we didn’t even bother to go out for dinner. However, if we had wanted to, we could have just slipped downstairs to the famous Monkey Bar or across the street to Cellini, a local favorite that serves great Italian food.

Finally, while we liked the classic, understated, and elegant feeling of the building and its spaces, it was the staff who really made the difference. They recognize what goes into creating a great client experience and deliver in all categories. Because of this, The Hotel Elysee is now the only place that we’ll consider staying at when visiting Manhattan.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel are quieter.

We stayed here for 2 weeks with our three teenage children and found it ideal. What a great location. We had adjoining rooms with a lovely lounge room (with a sofa bed) between the 2 bedrooms. The rooms are tastefully furnished, comfy beds, plenty of storage and an added benefit of being able to open the window for fresh air! Being a small hotel is part of its charm and the staff were all so friendly and helpful that we really felt so much at home. We loved the all inclusive breakfast and the all day complimentary tea/coffee and cookies, followed by the complimentary drinks (wine, champagne) from 5pm. What a bonus! If we ever return to New York we would definitely stay at the Élysée again.

Room Tip: As there is only one lift we would suggest a room on a lower floor, so that if you get tired of wait...
