The Hilton Manhattan East is located in a charming area very near the United Nations. What is wonderful about this location is the surrounding "tudor village" area. Even though you are situated in the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, you can walk a few moments up the street and take either staircase to community maintained parks. They are a peaceful and serene escape from an otherwise busy city. The bus stops directly outside the front door, which is convenient. If you are a walker, this midtown locale is perfect. The hotel itself has all the comforts you would want and then some. We usually ended our busy day with a nice little glass of wine at the downstairs bar. The rooms have a slightly vintage feel, yet are updated, clean and in my opinion, quite large for Manhattan standards. We have stayed here many times (even before it was a Hilton property) and will continue to book here in the future. A real gem.

My partner and I stayed here in late May. We booked this hotel because the price was great and included breakfast each night (just over $200 US per night). We had a budget and wanted to stick to it. Not wanting to spend more than $200US a night in NYC (notoriously known for some of the most expensive accommodation holdings in the world) we were expecting alot less than what we received. Room was very large for manhattan standards as was the bathroom. We were on the 11th floor but had no views, both windows faced brick walls, however we didnt expect much at this price, actually we expected to be facing brick walls so this was not a problem. Bed was comfortable, probably to comfy as we slept in a few mornings fairly late. Rooms dont have a min-bar fridge, there is a ice bucket with ice machines on several floors but a fridge would have been handy. Bathroom products provided (PeterThomasRoth) were great. Breakfast was ok, was included in our room rate so can't complain but wouldnt pay for it if it wasnt as selection was limited. Reception and bell staff were fine, not amazing but pleasant, breakfast attendants were pleasant also and the housekeepers were extremely pleasant, always smiling and so friendly and even left friendly post notes wishing us a great day. There was a lady who worked in the kitchen for the breakfast service who was rude, when she came out to put food out we saw her push past people and yell at the other staff and you could hear her yelling from the kitchen, we didnt get her name though. Apart from her though overall service was perfectly fine. The location of the hotel is a little removed from the centre of the action but we liked this. It's in a quieter part of town, a relaxing place to rest for the night. Its still in manhattan so you can never get away from the noise and excitment but its makes for a welcoming change at the end of a long day to come back to somewhere with a slightly more inviting and peacful feel. Its located in the Tudor City neighbourhood which is definately worth a walk around and is opposite the Ford foundation building which has a unique indoor garden open to the public. NYC is all about the walking but if you dont want to walk there are so many transport options. The cross town bus stops right outside the hotel and runs from the hotel along 42nd street right to the other end at peir 83. The 42nd street subway is also close by with a stop near 43rd street and runs under 42nd street with a stop at 7th Ave, perfect for Times Square. Grand Central is only about a 7 min walk away and has a great indoor food market place of Lexington Ave. You can walk from the hotel to Times Sqaue and Broaway Theatres in around 15-20 mins, with so much to look at along the way and high pedestrian traffic it may take longer but thats part of the NYC experience. If you are only in NYC for a few nights and spending most of your time around Times Square then this hotel may not be the best for you as you may get over the walk or transport quickly but you wont get the same value at the Times Sqaure hotels, you will mostly likely pay more for less. Overall the hotel offered more than we expected for the price we paid. Would reccommend and would stay again. Thank you Hilton Manhattan East and thank you NYC, we miss you.

This hotel has everything a traveller needs: a great room with a great view, a terrific bed, an LCD tv and a nice bathroom. Moreover, it is located at the eastend of 42nd Street, which makes for a nive walk towards midtown.
The only thing I didn't like were the rates for wireless internet: $16 per day. That's a little steep..
But all in all a great hotel !!

Having had a long long day involving travel, presentations and business meetings, I was delighted by the friendly check in process in reception. Armed with my room key I was soon able to freshen up with a powerful shower so that I could stand my own company once more.
Having been given a restaurant recommendation from a friend, the staff went out of their way to provide me with directions / approximate walking time etc. Certainly making me feel like a valued guest.
One surprise was check-out - the invoice intimated fast speedy check-out using a phone function ... that didn't exist. No problem however - the heartfelt thank you for staying with us when I was leaving will certainly ensure I consider this hotel again.

Room Tip: Be polite to the staff - like they are to you.

I as in town for a wedding elsewhere in town - stayed the nights of June 10 and 11. I was upgraded to a "Junior Suite" (due to my Hilton Gold member status?) which is basically a slightly larger room Bathroom was spacious and included a bidet and jacuzzi tub (which i used to shower, only). The room was very quiet and set back a bit from the street. This restricted the view quite a bit, but helped keep the street noise down to a minimum.

Check-in was fast and courteous. The first night I had dinner at the bar and watched the Yankees game. (I recommend the salmon!) Bartender, Mr. Williams was superb and will tell you anything you ever wanted to know about the NY Yankees. Breakfast was good, although a huge benefit would be fresh, cooked-to-order eggs rather than the scrambled ones they put out on the buffet. (They start to get a dark, dry patina after a while!)

Minor complaints about he room:
1. I had to turn the air conditioner thermostat down to about 61 degrees to get the room to be relatively comfortable. There were two vents in the room, one of which blows directly on the thermostat. This causes the thermostat to sense a low temperature even when the rest of the room is rather warm.

2. I used the in-room safe, but was unable to open it when I returned. Any button pushed on the safe returned an error code on the screen. I called the front desk and someone came up within a very short time to open it with a master code.
