“great location, clean and comfortable.”
Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

It's quite unusual this hotel. It's on Broadway but way north if the madness in NYC. Its choose to the subway 72nd street station and to central park. There's a supermarket opposite and many restaurants in the area.

Beacon is very clean, staff are very pleasant. Rooms are well equipped, with the oddity being a kitchenette with a kettle, toaster, hob, pans, fridge etc. there is however no minibar and i don't think any room service. There is a bar, which i think does a little food.

It was a wedding holiday and we were greeted with champagne and chocolates, which was lovely. We had a tech issue which was solved very quickly.

The treats we found were a laundrette on the fifth floor and a well equipped very new gym in the basement floor. The wifi is a bit unreliable, but there are computers in the lobby complete with printers, a real handy feature.

ALL the positive reviews here say it all and I researched this hotel for over a year! It lived up to my every expectation and beyond wonderful staff from front desk to housekeeping and the Bar became my little home for a warm and friendly night cap or light bite after a night out on the city! I must mention Jose behind the bar who from day one made me feel welcome - mind they all do and Tara too who was kind enough to put me in touch with her friend in Vegas for a locals help with making stage two of my holiday work well!

For someone who is sensitive to service including the good bad and the ugly it is obvious that the Beacon has worked hard at making good service a natural gift that they are all more than willing to share and their friendliness is truly genuine non scripted so that when they say to you have a good day they mean it and you just can not help saying the same back! I write this on my last full day in NYC and although I am not half way through my holiday if it were to end today I would be totally satisfied and content too! Not saying any more I can hear Jessie mixing cocktails and there is bound to be gossip to catch up on from Jose and Tara!

Room Tip: It is not a high end chain hotel BUT it is somewhere you can make home!

This boutique hotel is everything you could ask for in an atmosphere of neighborly charm. We had a suite overlooking Broadway. How wonderful to get away from the touristy mad clamor of Times Square but at the same be within walking distance of the Lincoln Center, the Columbus Circle area and 5th Ave. shopping. If you don't wish to walk subway service is just up Broadway at 72nd St. The hotel staff are friendly, helpful and long-suffering. They don't know the meaning of "a New York minute". The only thing we would have liked was some form of food service, but really, who needs it with so many nice restaurants just outside the door. If you want to experience the real New York with tree-lined side streets, friendly people walking their dogs, and a lack of tourist glitz, stay at the Beacon.

Room Tip: When reserving request a room with a view.

After our great visit from last year, we booked The Beacon again. For visiting New York this hotel is great. Across the street you will find the deli Citarella and a supermarket with 'everything'. Almost no need to go out for a dinner, as the deli and the supermarket Fairway have booth great 'take away'. As always a very nice staff, great suggestion for where to go & a very clean hotel.
The hotel is on walking distance to Central Park. Just a few blocks away.

The Beacon theatre is next door. And if you want to see a movie (our kids of 13 & 15 years old favorite in New York) just walk up to the Lincoln Square (5 minutes walk max.)

In walking distance you also find the Amercan Museum of Natural History (known from the movie ' night at the museum'). If you visit the museum between 16.45 and 17.45 hours, its free. If you want to take a closer look, as we did, buy your tickets the day before and start right at the opening at 10.00 o' clock. You'll get ahead of the crowd.

Room Tip: A suite is the best!

Ney York accom was daunting and after checking and browsing and checking again .... and again nearly 100 Manhattan hotels on Trip Advisor I STILL hadn't found anything I deemed suitable. Then my Dentist told me about his recent stay in the big apple, I finally decided to take his advise (and not only floss more regularly) but check out the Beacon Hotel. I was extremely glad I did and so I booked it right away for our 6 night New York visit. This hotel is great in every way, value, cleanliness, modern-ish charm, excellent service, as well as perfect location in upper Manhattan. Moderately priced (for New York). Surprisingly quiet, friendly helpful staff, and a nice cosy bar downstairs. The rooms are quite spacious by NY standards and feature a small kitchenette that includes a fridge, sink, crockery, cutlery, and a coffee pod machine (which produced delicious coffee). The beds were probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in anywhere and a most welcome sight after a 20-something hour flight from Australia. Rooms are serviced daily by friendly housekeepers. Nearby places to note: the cafe 'Viend' next to hotel on the corner is the cleanest diner/cafe I've eaten in and open late. Great milkshakes, Cheeseburgers, and Rice Pudding.... yes that's right Rice Pudding (& NY Cheesecake of course). A supermarket directly opposite on Broadway 'Fairway' is well stocked, open late, reasonably priced and just plain handy if you need any groceries or other items. 'Dallas BBQ' round the corner on 76th? (next to John Lennon's old digs - The Dakota) is sensational, cheap, and very filling if you are hungry.
All in all the Beacon Hotel is absolutely top class in every way - I cannot find any fault with this place and I highly recommend it if you want a nice comfy quiet clean room away from the hustle and noise of Times Square.

Ps: the Beacon Hotel is close to Central Park and approx a 20 min walk down Broadway to the action of Times Square & Grand Central station etc, and in case you haven't guessed it, yes it's right next door to the historic Beacon Theatre. 10/10

After trying numerous hotels in NYC, we chose the Beacon. I can only say we have finally found the one we have been looking for: super friendly, helpful staff; charming doorman; ultra-clean room with 2 double beds and a teeny kitchenette for easy coffee-making and storing leftovers. We got a lower price by booking directly through the hotel, so don't waste your time searching for a better rate through booking agencies. This review doesn't actually give the hotel enough credit, so let me end by saying...shouting....IT IS A FABULOUS HOTEL.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 16th floor facing east. It was totally quiet...not a bit of street noise.
