“Our New Upper Westside Apartment!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2013

The room was spacious -- a must for me in cramped New York City, with room for yoga poses. The kitchen and refrigerator made it unnecessary to run out in the morning to try to find some place to eat -- we would dine at our leisure at our own kitchen table. Great staff, lots of windows and light, very clean. The only reason this doesn't get more stars is that it does not have a restaurant.

Great location in the UWS, literally you can walk to everywhere. Huge rooms for NYC, really friendly staff, free WiFi everywhere. The only negative was some renovation going on. Didn't bother me, but it could be loud in the lobby.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in mid December, this was first visit to NYC and this hotel and I have to say I couldn't be more happy with this hotel.

It's on the upper west side and we got the subway from JFK and only had to change once. The hotel itself is 3-4 minutes walk from the subways station. We arrived just after 15:00 which is check in time, check in was fast and friendly.

The room was spacious and clean and modern, we had two queen side beds and separate living room with kitchenette, the sofa was also a sofa bed and very comfortable. The hotel is opposite a Fairways store, ideal for shopping for breakfast stuff for the kitchenette. The kitchenette even had a very handy coffee machine and 4 fresh pods were supplied everyday.

The room was cleaned everyday, beds made and towels replaced, I just can't fault the place. It was super easy to get to, quiet, surrounded by some nice places to eat, great friendly staff. I had originally wanted to be down by Times Square but the prices for hotels down there didn't justify, I am so happy we picked The Beacon. I can't understand why anyone would give this place a bad review and I can't wait to go back to NYC and would without doubt use The Beacon again.

We stayed three nights. A spacious, elegant room in a good location on Broadway next to the Beacon Theatre and a short stroll from Central Park. As it is across the road from an excellent supermarket with a superb range of fresh produce, the microwave and other self-catering facilities in the room are much appreciated as they solve the problem of getting a quick economical breakfast.

Recommended.

We stayed with friends just after new year for 3 nights at the Beacon.
It is in a great location - 5 mins walk to Central Park. 5 mins to the 72nd street Subway which is only a couple of stops to Time Square.
There a good convenience stores all around and a good little restaurant next door.
The rooms are a good size and clean.
The staff are very friendly and were considerable help when ever we had a question or a request.
The Bed was comfortable and the amenities were very useful (Plate, knifes forks etc)
All in all a very good Hotel and we will definitely stay there when we go back.

Stayed here for seven nights over Xmas and were very happy with the stay.

We had one standard room and a one bedroom suite between a family of five. The hotel accommodated us close together on the same floor. Ideally, I would have chosen an apartment, however as this is a difficult option in NYC, the Beacon, recommended by so many on TA, seemed a good alternative. The kitchen was tiny, particularly in the suite, but enough to prepare breakfast and heat pre-prepared meals. The rooms were clean and the housekeeping excellent. The laundry was good.

The Reception staff were ok, not particularly friendly, but efficient.

The location is wonderful - truly a local neighbourhood, with Citarella (high quality prepared and fresh food) and Fairway (quality fruit and veg, groceries, including large organic range) right across the street and a liquor store very close by.There's a cafe under the hotel (Viande), which acts as room service and they are rightly famous for their roast turkey - on Xmas Day, we ordered it in (3 serves between five adults was too much) and it was delicious, with homemade chestnut stuffing, juicy meat and generous vegetables. There are plenty of good eating options in the immediate area - pizza at Little Italy pizza at 2047 Broadway and Cesca, which was recommended by a local standing outside - who turned out to be the wife of 'John Boy' Walton, for those of you old enough to know who I'm talking about!!

After the crowds and chaos of midtown pre Xmas, it was nice to emerge, just a few stops along, at 72nd St subway, where things were much calmer. It was nice to be surrounded by many locals going about their business.

A short walk away is Central Park and the Dakota building and a little beyond is Columbus Circle with the enchanting holiday markets (at Xmas). The subway is so easy to use (thanks again TA), that everywhere is convenient if you're close to a subway station, which the Beacon is.

Interestingly, there seemed to be quite a few people who live here full time, including one woman I met in the lift who had lived there for 35 years.

I have previously stayed closer to Time Square in a what was called a hotel. This time we reviewed on this site the various options and settled on the Beacon Hotel Upper West Side .I knew that we had use the subway but it was literally a couple of minutes from station to station beware don't blink $25 for the weekly ticket.
The hotel is excellent no faults found with it and I will stay there again when I go back to New York.Nice part of New York within walking distance of Central Park and The Natural History Museum. The staff were very helpful from our arrival to organizing our transport back to the airport.
