I recommend the Hotel Beacon on Broadway and West 75th Street. I have stayed there a few time and found it to be reasonably priced. There is a kitchenette in the room. The rooms are clean and quiet. It is next to the Beacon Theater and across the street from Fairway Supermarkets. Several good restaurants are in walking distance. Next door is the Viand Diner where I often have had lunch or dinner. Pappardella is an Italian restaurant a block away that offers a gluten free menu.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the street as one or two overlook a roof.

This is a great hotel and in my opinion gives you a great feel for what it might be like to live in NY. Three of us stayed in a 1 bedroom corner apartment which was massive. I've never know accommodation in NY to be so spacious. The hotel was originally apartments and there are some that are still homes which makes it all a little quirky. There is a great food market across the road which has everything and anything you might want and with a self catering apartment it is so convenient. There is a drugstore and a subway stop just abt 2mins walk away so you have easy access to the city. It might seem a bit inconvenient to stay away from the major tourist spots in the city but in fact I'd prefer to stay in this area in the future. You are also only a few blocks from Central Park which is great for a stroll to shake off the jetleg if flying longhaul like we did. We found some lovely bars and restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel and they seemed quite reasonably priced. The hotel staff are lovely, I could fault them in anyway. They are incredibley knowledgeable about the city and were able to answer any question we had. I was there first in Apr 2011 for work and am going back now on hols in Sep 2012 and am really looking forward to it

Room Tip: Ask for a corner 1 bed apartment they seem a little bigger than some of the others

We love Hotel Beacon in NYC and have stayed there at least a half of dozen times with our children. The location is perfect: Starbuck's is across the street, a grocery store is across the street, and cleaners around the corner. Central Park is four blocks away and Riverside Park is the same distance in the other direction. The rooms are clean and good size for NYC. The movie theater is 6 blocks away and the historic Beacon Theatre is next door. Vivand Cafe is on the other side of the hotel and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The 72nd subway is three blocks away and taxis are abundant up and down Broadway. You cannot go wrong staying at Hotel Beacon.

this is a great hotel, the staff are great. the rooms are cleaned every day, the beds and pillows are sooooo! comfy, had a great sleep every night, our room was on the 7th floor round the side and the street quiet.the small kitchen was great for making breakfast in the morning and had a good supermarket across the road for all our needs.only 2 streets away from the subway, we used it a lot, always felt safe even late at night.got a really good map from reception so dont need to take one with you, would definately go there again.

If you go to New York, go to this Neighbourhood in the Upper Westside and stay at the Beacon. Rooms and suites are comfortable, very well appointed and contain everything you need for an extended vacation including a kitchenette and relevant supplies. Coffee pod machine provided and the amenities in hotel, laundry etc are very well kept. Transport is accessible, concierge is very helpful, views are good and the deli, supermarket and restaurants are close by. Central Park is two blocks away and you can walk to great shops. Beds are very comfy, bathrooms and products are excellent and luxurious. Rooms have a great walk in wardrobe, iron etc. Make a booking now!

WOW, lovely people to deal with, nothing is too much trouble, we had a king suite for mum and dad and the sofa bed for two young ladies, 20 and they put a fold away in the room for no cost so girls could have extra room! Rooms are clean and kitchenette a great help. Cleaners do the washing up every day. There is a yummy deli across the road and a supermarket, wine shop two doors down, what more can you ask for. The subway is 5 minutes walk away and is fantastic to get around, very safe. The area is quiet and safe and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. I couldnt book through my travel agent as its always booked out, but I booked online and had no trouble. Please give this hotel a try you won't be sorry.

it's very good - everything works, the locations good, the room is comfortable, having a kitchen is really useful and it's lots of space for the price, but somehow it's very boring. and do the rooms have to be entirely green - walls, bed, dustbin, curtains, lamps.... bit home from homey, I'd look out for something funner on my next visit to NY.
