My girlfiend and I stayed here from February 24th-26th for a girls weekend away. The hotel staff was friendly and courteous. They had many recomendations for restaurants, which are numerous in the area. The room was very clean, tastefully done. The bathroom was alittle small, but gorgeous with extras like a toothbrush and razor (we stayed in a 1 BR suite). We had a terrific veiw of the American Museum of Natural History. No coffee pots in room, which was ok, but could have used room service for that first cup. You are able to go get coffee at the dining area on the 2nd floor and bring it back to your room. Bed was so comfy..hard to get up in morning. Plush robes were another plus. Very clean and safe neighborhood. would definately stay there again.

The management, particularly the general manager Ivan, and the other employees were incredibly rude. I made a reservation through their website and immediately called afterward to see if I could cancel. The reservations agent said she could do nothing for me if I'd gone through their website. SO I stayed there and the heater only functioned on high, and throughout the night made loud knocking and buzzing sounds intermittently. I had to turn it off to fall asleep but then the room became freezing again! I turned the heater on again and the noises started up. Needless to say, my fiance and I got NO SLEEP. The manager Ivan was very unsympathetic and rude when we asked for discount for our trouble. After he granted a $60 discount, he then tried to secretively reduce it by telling his employee to take $50 instead. We caught this move by doubling checking with the agent at the desk about the discount. Ivan never greeted us in person and only would speak by phone. Overall, the entire management was a disappointment, and I would NEVER recommend staying in such a place.

Attractive in a classic way, brass and burnished wood in the lobby, attendants in uniform; warm, quiet, smallish, with only a handful of rooms on each of 16 floors; each room's appointments were extra nice, tasteful. Thick towels, a jarful of cotton puffs and q-tips were the extra marks that said this hotel sets out to please, and hopes you'll choose it on return trips. Beds - even the foldout - were comfortable, and the linens were too. Our view was looking south over the park surrounding the Am. Museum of Natural History. Location: subway a half-block away, Columbus Ave, steps in the other direction, with bakeries, restaurants, shops......and it is lots quieter than mid-town! Heat adjustments not available, which could be a problem in extreme weather, hot or cold. Did I leave out safe? It felt that way.

How did this hotel ever get a four star rating?...did I miss something?...We have just returned from a lovely Chrismas break in New York. From the outside the hotel was not disappointing...nor was the lobby. The bedrooms though are drab and very basic...with horrible pillows and bedding. There were no signs of any luxuries at all......just one lone bottle of luke warm water standing on top of the television..no fridge....not even coffee making facilities. Whatever you do...try not to wake in the night thirsty!

Our heating in the room did not work...and neither did the safe in the room seem to either.

There appeared to be no public areas other than the lobby....and no bar or lounges etc....and no apparent room service either.

I will say though........that the bathroom was quite pleasant.

The walls were very thin.....and we had to endure the sounds of a very energetic couple next door for quite some time during the night..!

I would just like to know how this hotel got a four star rating.

I enjoyed being so close to the Natural History Museum and Central Park, and the neighborhood has a few nice restaurants and cafes. (It was also fun to see the Macy's parade balloons being blown up right outside our door!) We had a few problems, though, including a clogged drain in the bathroom and only one bed in the room when we were expecting two. When I told them the situation and asked whether they had any doubles, the complete response was "no," with no suggestions at all (like "we could upgrade you tomorrow" etc). When I asked for suggestions, the response was a sarcastic "sleep in the same bed." It was like pulling teeth to finally learn that we could do an upgrade to a suite for the following night--after she initially told us that this was not possible. As for the clogged drain, the repair person never showed up. Housekeeping was extremely friendly and helpful, and they did their job very well. The sofa sleeper bed in the suite was NOT comfortable to sleep on.
