“Good hotel”
Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for 4 nights my husband and I and our infant son. It's a nice hotel we got upgraded to a suite which was great because with the baby cot in the room we needed the extra space. It is in a good location with easy access to Central Park and the subway. Which was useful fir the occasional trip but with the stroller and the subway having only stair access we mostly walked everywhere. My only coming wild be it didn't have a kettle which seems minor but when you have a milk consuming baby hot water is a must. They had no kettle to lend us but we had access to the kitchen which was the floor below so was only a minor bugbear. All in all a good family hotel in a great location.

This hotel's location is great--especially for families. It's a short walk to the Natural History Museum & Central Park. It's possible to get a suite, though beware--the suite may not have enough beds for your family. We got 2 single beds and some sheets for our kids to sleep on the floor. Steer clear of breakfast--cold eggs and less than fresh fruit. Yuk.

Spent 6 days at this hotel great location right opposite Central Park. Rooms kept clean, staff friendly and very helpful. .lots of little cafés,restaurant's just around the corner. Would stay at this hotel next time I go to NY.....Just one thing if you want to go to the twin tower memorial you will need to go on line and book a time....I didn't know this and left it to the last day I was there and ran out of time and couldn't get up close.......I still went to the site and I still had a tear.

we stayed in this hotel and thought it was a bit outdated but it was clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a room with two single beds which overlooked Central Park. We were on the ninth floor. The room was fairly large and spacious and had a lovely ensuite bathroom, there was also an iron and ironing board in the cupboard and a large flat screen tv. The hotel was a little further out than I thought but we used the subway, which was just around the corner and fairly cheap to use. Enjoyed our stay and the eating venues on Columbus Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue

Recently stayed at the Excelsior. It was the perfect location for museum hopping. The subway and crosstown bus are at your doorstep. Quaint, quiet hotel. Enjoyed a fantastic meal in the Callo Ocho restaurant located at the hotel. Bathroom was a bit outdated, but spotlessly clean, as was the room. Overlooked the Museum of Natural History and mid-town skyline (12th floor), with no noise issues from the street. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of nearby places to eat and shops for those forgotten items. Lacking was the fact there was no free WiFi in the room (have to go to lounge on second floor). No room service either, but Starbucks is a two minute walk.

This hotel was very nice. The lobby is a bit outdated, but nice and cool in the New York heat. Front desk staff were very helpful and polite. Rooms were very large with lots of room for many bags, were cleaned well. Read previous reviews about paying for wifi, thought this couldn;t be true with wifi everywhere, but it was. I think it was unreasonable to charge for wifi in your room and to come down to the lobby to use the internet. Have not seen this in a hotel and I have stayed at many. This was an inconvenience.

Nice, cosy, enourmous and spotess rooms much better than big hotel chains.Welcoming and helpful staff, helped us very efficiently with a missing transfer to the airport. Good location, everything was at walking distance. We will certainly go back!
