Have been to new york many times and always make time for a trip to Riki. Best authentic japanese food ever in a relatively understated decor, the real deal. Almost willing to keep it secret as it is one of these places you stumble upon and want to keep to yourself. But at the same time, love it too much to see it fail. It would break my heart. Go Riki

We were two for lunch at a very wet day when we stumbled to Riki's.
The staff welcomed us and seated us quickly and gave us imminently tea.
Than came the menu which contains several good options for meals, and we chose the lunch menu at 15$ which included 2 dishes (out of 8 i think), miso soup, rice bowl and small side salad - very good deal.
The food was good, not the best i've ever eaten but very reasonable and the sushi was fresh.
Overall - it was a good lunch at a very nice restaurant with good service

just had a great meal at Restaurant Riki. very authentic menu and food perfectly prepared. Definitely be adventurous as the menu has many options and many small plates. Staff was very nice and took the time ti explain some dishes. Reasonably priced, especially when considering its location.

It is a real treat to go to Restaurant Riki! Such a relief to not be at yet another interchangeable, indistinguishable yuppie-catering too-chic sushi place. Restaurant Riki clearly has a Japanese clientele, which should be enough to tell you this is the real deal. The izakaya offerings are delicious and unpretentious and delightful. Excellent variety of Japanese beer and sake offered, many at surprisingly low prices (for Manhattan). The staff is very professional and friendly, and the whole atmosphere is fun and down-to-earth. Can't wait to go back!

My first visit here was a few years ago with a Brazilian friend who is of Japanese decent. I had walked by it many times but never ventured in. It is not much to look like on the outside. I was astounded by the menu and even more so by the food.
The menu was extensive. I had to ask many questions. That is good because it caters to a very Japanese clientele and those who really know the cuisine - UN diplomats and businessmen. This menu is authentic, not just sushi and teriyaki etc. Be adventurous and try some things you perhaps never heard of. Share plates and try even more things. If you thought you were familiar with Japanese cuisine Riki's will expand your palate. I am not referring to " exotic" nor strange items, but simply a wide variety of dishes that are absolutely delicious. The soups, the grilled fish, the stewed meats were out of this world - savory to the max.
Riki's is incredibly reasonable and right in the heart of midtown. For me it is very convenient as I take Metro North at Grand Central. It is only steps away. There are a number of private booths. You have to reserve one of these. There is a sushi bar and even a karaoke bar and room upstairs, also with private rooms where you can sing your heart out in without embarrassment.
I was there last night and will be back.
