“Still Worth Going”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

I heard many times how the old deli could not be duplicated when it moved uptown. Well, duplication wasn't the idea, it was satisfaction. And satisfying, it is. The food is sensational, just what anyone could expect from a real New York Deli. The menu is extensive. The service is okay, not always great, but I've never been to a deli where they had top service. Ratner's, long closed, had the most surly waiters in town, but if you were a regular, you went for the food. And, the attitude of some of the waiters was more entertaining than annoying. Not saying the servers at 2nd Avenue rise to the level of Ratner's! And they should not!! Go. Enjoy this place. Very few left, and certainly not in this location.

“Not worth it”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

Very high prices and not very accommodating. Knowing that many New York Deli's sandwich sizes are very large, we asked the waitress to describe the size before we ordered. She indicated the size was about 1/2 of what they actually were. Right after we ordered, we saw another table receiving their order, and requested to cancel 1 of our sandwiches, because the size was obviously more than we could eat - but were told we were unable to do that. The food was ok - but definitely not worth the price or the waste.

Amazing old schools deli. Large portions, excellent food and friendly staff can be expected here! Was very pleased with this restaurant and would go eagerly go back.

“Among the best”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

I hadn't been to the 2nd Ave Deli in a very long time -- way before it moved. Not sure why, but I went with not the highest of expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised. We shared brisket and pastrami sandwiches that were just perfectly done. Juicy and tender, not at all dried out. We also had baked potato knishes (as opposed to the fried square ones) and they too were fantastic. I'd reserve the 5th star for a return visit to see if they're consistent. Otherwise, it would be great if we could give 1/2 stars because I'd go right to 4.5. Even the service was good! Who knew?

“A traditional treat.”
Reviewed June 10, 2014 via mobile

I don't think many things have changed here for many years. And that's good! Very traditional, authentic neighourhood feeling. Almost like one of a better "gemütlich" traditional German "Wirtschaft". We came here for a quick bite since we didn't feel like for a larger dinner and just had one of the sandwiches each. Don't be fooled by the expression "Sandwich". These are two slices of healthy grey bread filled with tons!! of meat of finest quality. Add a pint of Brooklyn lager and this is your perfect treat.
