“Great stay at Hampton Inn Soho!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

We've visited NYC several times previously but have always stayed in the 50's. Hotels were booked because of St. Patrick's Day Parade, so we decided to give Soho a try. We are so glad we did! The staff was polite, friendly, and helpful. The hotel was very clean (though too much air freshener in the room). Good location -- it was an easy subway ride to the Lincoln Center, and an easy stroll the next day to the New Museum in the Bowery. In the evening we went to a movie at the Angelica Theater and enjoyed our chilly walk back to the hotel. Parking is a couple blocks away, but there is a pull-in driveway in front of the hotel for check-in.

Our trip was in celebration of our wedding anniversary. Not sure it would have been as good a location with our kids, who don't enjoy big cities quite as much as we do. The room was small, but for two -- perfect!

Dear Julyva,

First of, we want to congratulate you on your wedding anniversary. We hope you had a great time in this fun and exciting city of ours. It is a pleasure to know that you enjoyed that area and that it also offered you the convenience of the nearby subway system to get you quickly to all your destinations.

Cleanliness is always an important factor and we are glad that was never an issue. Please consider staying in one of our King Study Views with a Balcony in the future. It is great for couples and has amazing views of the city as well as more space. We hope to see you again and thank you for being our guests!

Best Regards,

rooms so small and close together, I could pretty much hear the people next door breathing. the window to my room was wide open when i walked in so that was comforting to know....... glad i was only here for one night. the surrounding area looked pretty sketchy.

I was really glad I picked this hotel for my stay! I picked it because of it's location, Soho is a nice area and the subway is close. Arriving at the hotel I was positive surprised, the stuff was really nice, friendly and helpful! Our room was clean, also the bathroom. The breakfast in the morning was fresh and a good selection. All this for a really fair price. Also the bar is nice.
I would definitely come back and recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to spend some time in New York City, without driving in and out the city forever.

Dear Adriane B,

Thank you for staying at the Hampton Inn Manhattan Soho. We appreciate the time out you took to share your feedback about our hotel. I do apologize that you had to deal with the disruptive bongo that particular afternoon. We have spoken with the school about it and trust that this no longer will be an issue. We are glad to hear that you found our staff friendly and are happy you got to enjoy our complimentary Continental Deluxe breakfast. We hope to see you again soon!

Room cleaner than I expected. Bathroom was a nice size for NYC. I didn't feel like I was in the shower when I was sitting on the toilet. I was on the 4th floor facing the back. The only view was of a school. During late afternoon there was a couple of people playing the bongo drums in a room directly across from my room....worried that they would play all night, but they stopped after a few hours.
Staff was friendly and the breakfast in the morning was part of room charge, and quite decent. The coffee was good, and not watered down.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the back on a high floor, and away from the bongo drum players.

Superb location for Soho and the Financial District. I was here on business and the hotel was ideally located for Varrick Street, The Financial District and all the Uptown subways. The rooms were the usual NYC snug size but very comfortable. The carpets and decor are looking a little tired and a good lick of paint would make such a difference.

The breakfast was really great, lots to chose from but the only downside was the fact that you had to use plastic plates, bowls and cutlery.

All in all I would recommend this hotel for its great location and reasonable cost.

Dear Caroline S,

Thank you for your sharing your feedback about our hotel, we appreciate anything you have to share. We are happy to know that you found your room comfortable especially being away from home.

We are sorry that you came across some wear and tear during your stay. I’ll be glad to let you know that we are currently working on remodeling the hotel to give it that fresh new feeling that our guests love.

Our apologies that you weren’t too satisfied with our plate and utensil selections. The good news is that in an effort to go green, those items are indeed biodegradable, always a plus for our eco conscience guests.

We appreciate you for your time and for being our guest and hope to see you here again in the future.

My spouse and I stayed at the Hampton Inn SoHo in mid-December 2012. We remitted Hilton Hhonors points for a free night's stay, although we think at that time of year, the room rate was about $350 per night.

This smallish property contains 19 floors (actually 18 floors, because there is no floor 13), and there are approximately 10 rooms per floor. Corner rooms end in 00, 01, 08, and 09, but according to the map in the hotel directory, they do not appear larger than others on the floor. Rooms ending in 03 and 05 are adjacent to the elevator, so they may be a little smaller than others, and maybe a little noisier. (We had one of the rooms next to the elevator, which was a bit small but not necessarily noisy.) Some rooms on the 17th and 18th floor are larger than on other floors; those room numbers end in 00, 02, 04, 06. The choicest rooms are on the top/19th floor: number 1901, 1095, and 1907 because they are penthouse suites with balconies.

Also on the 19th floor, for use by anyone, is an outdoor terrace, where there are comfy chairs and some small tables arranged around some plants. Smoking is permitted on the terrace. There were no umbrellas on the deck, but that may have been because we visited in December. It would be a great place to hang out and catch some sunshine on a beautiful day!

There is no on-site parking at the hotel, nor is there valet parking service available. Some street parking exists (if you pay careful attention to the parking meter restrictions), and there is a garage nearby at the corner of Varick and Broome Streets, just at the entrance to the Holland Tunnel (which makes exiting the city by car easy). Supposedly, the hotel has special rates at the garage, but we did not find them to be any less than we could have found without the hotel relationship; the charge is $35 for 24 hours, with no in/out privileges; any hours over 24 incur a pricey hourly charge, so it may make sense to pay for 2 days instead.

The hotel has a small pull-in driveway to use for loading and unloading passengers and luggage. The hotel provides a complimentary buffet breakfast, which is held in two adjoining rooms - one "regular" room, and the other a glass-type atrium with sky views. (On weekdays, you can pick up a “grab-and-go” breakfast bag instead of spending precious time at the serve-yourself buffet.) There is a small outdoor area off the atrium with a table and chairs for smokers; there are also a few tiny tables and chairs outside the entrance to the bar where you can smoke or enjoy a drink outdoors. The small, on-site Artifakt Bar has a separate entrance from the street; open evenings only, it doubles as the baggage storeroom during daylight hours. There are some computers in a corner of the small lobby for guest use. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.

We like the location of this hotel in lower Manhattan. It is just on the edge of SoHo, adjacent to Greenwich Village, and is within easy walking distance of Chinatown, Little Italy, and Canal Street. It is located on a small, somewhat quiet block very close to the entrance of the Holland Tunnel.

This hotel fit our needs nicely, and we would stay here again without hesitation, especially if we could reserve a room on the 19th floor!
