“Perfect location, lovely room, AMAZING price!!”
Reviewed August 12, 2011

I highly, highly recommend this hotel. We picked it based on location, having stayed in Soho in an apartment the previous year and loved the downtown location. A huuuuge tip for New York is to stay in downtown manhattan - most people go for midtown to be close to Times Square, or Upper East Side because of its reputation for glamour - believe me, that is not where you want to be. The NY subway system is so great that during the day, you can get anywhere fast, including Times Square, and at night we (two twenty something women) found the subway perfectly safe for 8pm-1am travel to Times Square the one night we went. Midtown and The Upper East Side are actually quite dead at night.

Most nights we frequented Soho, Greenwich Village, Meatpacking District,TriBeCa, and East Village. These areas are where most of the awesome restaurants, bars, and nightlife is. So wouldnt you want to be staying closer to where you will be spending your nights? That was our thinking, and it paid off!

Another location plus is that this hotel is between two different subway lines - making getting around really easy.

But back to the hotel itself - we paid around $1200 for a week, which is so cheap for New York that it even almost matched some of the hostel accommodation prices we looked at. And the price did not come with nasty catches, like an awful room or rude staff - our room was comfortable, clean, with a lovely bed and excellent recently renovated bathroom. The staff were acommodating, helpful and friendly. We had complimentary breakfast that, while on the minimal side, was still adequate and involved both hot and continental items.
Our only negative comments would be that the air-conditioning unit is pretty noisy, which we didnt really mind as we are heavy sleepers, and that the blinds in our room didnt actually close (by design, not due to being broken). We ended up tying them together in the middle with an elastic band to make the room dark. But these are very small things considering all the benefits of the hampton inn Soho, and we will definitely visit again.

I liked very much staying at the Soho neighborhood, less tourist crowded, full of good restaurants and smaller shops.
Upper levels back rooms have very pleasant skyline view, but some few times they present water shortages, probably due do pump problems. Very nice room. Reasonable breakfast, a little overcrowded. No wifi at the rooms (Hotel says will install it soon), wifi at the lobby.

Room Tip: Get a back room with open view (upper levels)!

It's normal that this is a popular choice since it's hard to find a reasonable hotel in Soho. The hotel does look new as other reviewers have mentioned. However I don't particularly like the layout of the room & bathroom as much I do the Hampton Inn in Mid-town. Not much for a view from the bedroom, but everything is adequate. If you have a car, the parking garage is on Varick street (only a block from the hotel), and I think there is a discount if the parking ticket is validated by the hotel. Hampton Inn also gives you a 20% discount coupon to have a drink at the lounge next door (not sure if it's part of the hotel or not). It's a good location to explore Soho, Chinatown, Little Italy, and Nolita. We also walked up to Greenwich Village and St. Marks Place from here. Overall, without many reasonable choices to stay in Soho, this one makes the cut very well.

This is a NYC hotel with tiny--again, tiny--but very clean and very useful rooms, and in walking distance from the subway (Canal Street) and tons of restaurants, shops, etc. My daughter and I stayed here while overnight visiting colleges in the city, and had a room overlooking the intense traffic on Watts flowing toward the tunnel. That did produce some noise that leaked into the room but it wasn't too bad - what was more unpleasing was that the window arrangements did not totally cover the window so the morning light came flooding in quite early. Breakfast was fine but the dining area was crowded so prepare to share a table with a stranger. No wifi, you have to use a cord for your computer and our room was missing one. As for the location, friends argued to me it is not "really" Soho but it's close enough. All in all, though, it's a find for this congested and expensive city neighborhood. I almost hate to write about it and drive up the prices.

we stayed here for 7 nights and were very happy with the hotel. the room was a decent size considering what i hear NY rooms are like, and the bathroom was a decent size also. the airconditioner worked a treat, which was amazing because it was over 100degrees for 4 days in a row so going back to our hotel was refreshing!
the staff were very helpful. we had to leave two nights early because of a sudden family matter and the concierge Jay helped us to get on our way with ease and without worry, offering to call the booking.com people to organise a refund on the last nights.
the only thing i wasnt a huge fan on was the breakfast, but i really shouldnt complain because it was included in the package, and its hard to find breakfast incl. in the USA so i guess it was just because we were there for so long i got sick of the same thing.
the location was good too, very close to the subway, short walk from the cool soho shops, short walk from the stalls on canal street, and close to a great deli that we went to everyday to eat fresh fruit!
oh and the beds were super comfy!

We arrived at the Hampton Inn Soho during the heat wave last Friday. There was a power outage on the block and the hotel was running on a generator with power in the rooms but no elevator. The amazing front desk staff was consistently caring, polite and beyond that-they carried the luggage up many flights of stairs when the guests arrived, always uncomplaining and gracious. The next day the power was back and all was back to normal. We could really get to enjoy the hotel, the delicious breakfast in the lovely, spacious breakfast rooms downstairs (including an outdoor space under glass), the 17th floor outdoor deck, and the two computers for guest use in the lobby. And need I say what a great location! We recommend the Jazz Gallery just a few blocks away. Unbelievable value and a hotel staff you cannot put a price on! We will definitely be back.

This is actually a really perfect hotel within walking distance to anywhere you need to go in Soho. But you need to know that Watts Street is the entrance to the Holland Tunnell, and cars are bumper-to-bumper traffic all day long, every day, until about 1 AM.

So while it isn't impossible to have your taxi come pick you up, it would be stupid. Instead, walk around the corner and go up 6th Street to catch a cab. Anything to move AWAY from the traffic going to the Tunnel. If you do that, you won't be frustrated, and you'll see how perfect the hotel's location is (and also why it's affordable).

The bed was comfortable, room AC worked flawlessly (which is important in NYC in the summer).

Only complaint is that they closed the bar too early. I got back to the hotel at like 12:45ish and couldn't order a night cap. That was irritating. As a prime tourist/business hotel, the bar should serve liquor until 2 AM nightly.
