“Best Bagels in NYC”
Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

We used to live 3 blocks from Ess-a-Bagel and would go at least once a week. Great experience every time. Lines are shorter after noon on Saturdays and Sundays. But pop up at random times. Never a line if you take your bagels whole and buy a tub of cream cheese to make at home. Must do for all tourists & locals alike!

“Warm and Wonderful Bagels”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Trekked all the way across town just to try these bagels. Initially forgot that it's hard to get a toasted bagel in New York City but wasn't disappointed because they were crispy on the outside and still warm and chewy on the inside. The bagel was generously smeared with cream cheese (a little too much for me). We tried the plain and onion bagels and both were great. Limited seating but most people seemed to come in for takeout orders. Wish we had tried later in our trip so we could have taken some of these home. Loved these bagels and where in New York can you get a delicious, warm and filling breakfast for less than $5 a person :)

“Good But Not "Wow"”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

Went to 3rd Ave location. Lo-o-o-ong line in the middle of the space which makes it awkward to find seating or even move forward to pay. Employees were all very nice and there was a generous portion of cream cheese on each bagel (delicious cream cheese flavors too) but the bagels, eh, just average and not the traditional ones I am used to. If it's nearby and you are hungry for a bagel, then go, but otherwise seek out Bagel Buffet on 6th Ave.

“Boiled and Baked--Warm and Wonderful”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

If you want the best New York bagel EVER please stop by this quaint neighborhood bagel bakery. The bagels were delicious and they are very generous with their spreads and toppings. We also picked up a baker's dozen to bring home for the holiday. Friendly and fun staff. Wish I could stop there everyday.

“My favorite bagel in all of New York”
Reviewed December 24, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

I have lived in NYC for 6 years and I cannot get enough of Ess-a. My favorite in New York, I'm lucky to live so close to it. All their bagels are great (my favorites are everything or pumpernickel) and the lox spread or cream cheese are piled on so you always have too much. I always have to bring them home to my family. Highly recommend.
