A favorite spot in the city for a quick breakfast/brunch. Nice selection of baked goods including croissants, muffins, biscuits, etc. with a breakfast bar in the back with hot and cold entrees. A big slice of French Toast, eggs, bacon and coffee will run you about $11, not too shabby. Also has a pretty good salad bar at lunch. Another post mentioned expensive prices for a salad, havent had that experience. Having said that, they do weigh items from their bars, so guess depends how much you pile it on. Nice open and airy space to sit, relax and enjoy a meal. Would highly recommend. Btw, one of the best Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies in town :)

My husband, two kids (a 12- and 14-year-old) and I followed the recommendation in Fodor's New York City and made a stop here on a blustery April day for hot chocolate and pretzel croissants. The 14-year-old pronounced the hot chocolate "like mud, in a good way" -- and for those who like their hot chocolate thick and deliriously rich, that pretty much describes it. They were temporarily out of pretzel croissants, so we settled for a chocolate croissant and a breakfast muffin (which was like a cinnamon roll on steroids, also in a good way), and I grabbed two pretzel croissants (fresh from the oven at that point) to go on the way out.

The verdict? I would fly back to New York City in a heartbeat for another taste. These were like a Platonic ideal of what would happen if the best pretzel in the world and the best croissant in the world got together and had a baby. Pliant and hearty and flaky and sweet and salty and buttery all at the same time. If it's too crowded to find a seat (which it might be), get them to go. Just get them. They're a baked good revelation, and this is a family that knows its way around baked goods.

Maybe one of the best chocolate chip cookies of my life.....it's a good thing that I don't live in the neighborhood. It merits noting that the other food is very nice as well, lovely salads and vegetables, interesting pizzas. There is a good selection of baked goods (breads, muffins, desserts) but clearly my focus was on that cookie. A pleasant place to grab a meal (self service) and one can either eat there or take it away. Very nice quality.

We got hot chocolate take away and then walked back to union square park and enjoyed it there. It was really amazing, so thick and creamy, definitely recommend it!

tried this place on our trip and wish we'd have been told how it worked first! The options were lovely, a really appetising and diverse range of foods but 2 salads and 2 muffins came to $43! Would obviously have gone much easier on it all if we'd known roughly how much things were and that it was done by weight. That being said it was gorgeous food and we really enjoyed eating it in.the square.
