Description: Eileen's Special Cheesecake opened for business in December, 1975, and arrived in lower Manhattan on December 4, 1976. It was a "ghost town" when I first arrived, but that didn't bother me because the rent was low and I desperately needed a place to bake for my growing wholesale business. I hadn't considered the retail aspects of the business until people started knocking on the door of the bakery wanting to buy cheesecake. With that encouragement, I purchased a bakery case and began to conduct retail business. Soon after our cheesecake attracted the press and we were listed in "Best Bites" in New York Magazine. Radio station WOR rated us "Number One Cheesecake" and we appeared on television quite often whipping up batters of cheesecake. Time passed, and now Cleveland Place is in a popular area where the mix of people and restaurants and shops are so unique. Downtown is becoming the "place to be", and we are actually on most maps now. We survived difficult times, and now "let the good times roll"!

This was a mouthwatering experience. Eileen's cheesecakes are small and round, size of a small cupcake. We took classic cheesecakes (4$ piece) but there is a selection of cheesecakes available with fruity toppings, too. The cakes are truely creamy and worth for a visit. The cafe is small with only a few tables so be prepared for a wait or takeaway.

“Nothing special...”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Visited after seeing it on the Trip Advisor city guide of NYC. Very disappointing and expected better after reading the reviews. Not much choice and cheesecake was average, it wasn't worth the walk.

Best cheesecake in NYC? Fuhgetboutit! Try Junior's instead. The cheesecake here is a bit too coarse and hard for me.

“Not for me...”

But...the cheesecake was super no question about it. However I found myself not a big fan for cheesecake. But if you're a fun you must try it at Eileen's. Also grab a fresh coffee, sit down and watch al the memorabilia on the wall. Walk from Chinatown, past Eileen's and go on to broadway via Soho. Great route and a great stop.

“Exceptional Cheesecake”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

We read about Eileen's Cheesecake in Australia, and were not disappointed. We tried the classic plain cheesecake. It was light and tasty, and wishing we could come back for more.
The shop is old style, from anther era.
A must return on New York visit.
