We had seen a documentary about Vanessa on 'Forchette & sac à dos' in France which made us want to go and check out this place. We were not disappointed! Cheap and delicious the food is prepared before your eyes in an industrial type of atmosphere. Go there - you can't go wrong!

let' s start by something positive: prices are really very competitive but:
- the famous dumplings are quite ok, but far from perfect. their constitution is made of 30% filling and 70% dough (maybe that's why prices are so cheap!!)
-attendance is under all expectation: very unfriendly (not only with me, but with all customers), not a single smile, a single "thank you"; they all look like as if they have no choice but to work there.
I doubt they will see me again!

What an amazing place. Short on ambiance but long on value and taste.
I started with the Sesame Pancake with Peking Duck - delicious. BUT, next time pancake solo. Adding the duck is like gilding the lily?
I then had the Pork & Baggage fried dumplings (4). Super yummy, super fresh.
With a soda: $4.50! Can't be beat.
Can get crowded, but they dispatch everyone quickly and that insures freshness.

Fantastic dumplings and buns at an incredibly cheap price. Three of us ate for $12! Pork dumpling were the best and indulge with a peach smoothly to really top it off. Don't expect table cloths just great food

Vanessa's is located on a dirty street in Chinatown, in a crammed little room where you'll almost never get a seat. The ambience would turn most people off but this is New York City and if you've come this far, you're probably used to places looking like this. Regardless, you can get four amazing dumplings for $1 and you'd probably overlook worse things to get food that good at that price.
