Believe me it is worth the wait and in initial Baek jeong raucous modern ambience. Meats are well marinated in tradional Korean marinades to corresponding selections of meats that is not overpowering but we'll compliments the meats flavor and grilled tastes. The banchans are unique to Baekjeong and not found elsewhere in Koreatown but maintain the rules of the Korean Table in a unique way. The most interesting and complimentary to the BBQ is the beet juice pickled Korean radish slices that freshens the meats. And of course the scallion salad with its uniquely Korean cochugang dressing.

A must try in NYC'S Koreatown.

I had dinner at this place with a group of friends. They don't take reservations under 6 people so we had to wait for about 30 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night. Food was super good, service was fun and friendly. Decor was OK, the utensils were original. I had never been to a Kirean BBQ but I get the sense this is pretty authentic.

We ordered the beef combo and it was big enough for two people. Good thing my boyfriend and I have a big appetite. The ribeye is very tender and the side veggies are amszing especially the Salad. We'll definitely go back here!

With a recommendation from Saveur magazine and a pic of the actor Ice-T, we had to taste for ourselves what the fuss was about with this Korean BBQ restaurant.

First off, know that New York's Korea town is full of restaurants that have "Kang" in their name. You'll know this restaurant by the celebrity wall of photos near the entrance, and a map of the world. Another clue is that the servers all wear t-shirts with a butchers rendition of pork cuts of meat.

When you arrive you'll be given the choice for BBQ. Obviously you can opt out but that would be foolish. After all, this is the reason for choosing this place.

Next you'll be seated to a table full of small plates of pickled radishes, pickled cabbage, tofu, BBQ sauce, a pile of lettuce leaves, seasoned sprouts, and other delights that may seem indistinguishable if you aren't familiar with banchan (Korean tapas). No worries, you'll be provided with a cheat sheet to help you eat authentically.

Start with the salads while the egg, sweet corn and chopped veges start stimulating your appetite. Your server will do it all.

Depending on what you order the meat will be cooked in stages. Take your time and graze on the side dishes while your meat sizzles. While designed to complement the meal and typically interspersed between bites of the BBQ, it's fine to ask for refills of the sides.

Use the ssam or lettuce sheets as a wrap. Start by smearing the ssamjang (a funky BBQ like paste) on the lettuce leave and fill it like a Mexican burrito with your favorite ingredients.

Pro tip: At classy Korean BBQ places, servers do all the grilling. Be patient and enjoy the show by letting him or her do it.

To avoid the wait, we ventured for reservations and a private dining room for about $85 per person. To not have to wait, the price is well worth it. For the amount of meat that you receive for the amount of money per person, that is another story. I usually do not like to write negative reviews. If I don't have anything good to say, I usually ignore it. There are positives. The meat is tasty. The environment is lively. They serve you these "box rice" dishes that are unique to me which was tasty. If you are looking for Korean, this should be on your list to consider, but I am just basing some of my comments on the quantity of meat based on the price that we pay, it may be lacking a little bit. Otherwise, it is a place that you should try. Possibly do a la carte.
