BEST WESTERN PLUS Seaport Inn Downtown
Ranked #261 of 468 Hotels in New York City
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed here for one night on a 20-hour layover in New York. I hadn't visited the Seaport district before but it's an interesting neighbourhood to walk around and has stunning views of the Brooklyn bridge. We had a good meal at Grandma's Place just next door, and we could easily have spent the whole 20 hours on the 4 blocks surrounding the hotel.

The staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient. In fact the welcome we received from Tia on reception was probably the warmest welcome I've ever experienced in a chain hotel (her child is the same age as our daughter, which may have helped). The room was clean with an extremely comfortable bed, a large bath, and a big TV. A brand new travel cot was supplied on request.

We had to leave before breakfast was served, but the staff offered us coffee and snacks to take at 5AM. This was typical of the quality and dedication of all the workers we met.

After a couple of mediocre experiences in Best Westerns, the Seaport has restored my faith in this chain. Highly recommended.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Staff was very helpful and friendly, especially Dion. Location is convenient- short walk to subway which we took everywhere. Hotel was very clean and cleaning service good. Bathroom needed a fan but other than that the room was spacious and perfect. Would stay there again. Breakfast had lots of choices and waffles were great( sausage could use some work) but was overall pleased with variety.

My husband participated in a bike ride across the country and this was the hotel booked by the group.
This was our 3rd time in New York. We had stayed at the Westin by Central Park in 2004, Hilton on Avenue of the Americas in 2010.
When the cab arrived from the airport, I didn't even realize I was there. The area has construction going on all around. The surroundings very dark. I recognized the green canopies from the photos. The hotel is modest. If you want flashy, this is not for you. I was a bit apprehensive after checking in after going through small entry area. I got to my room and was very happy. The room was very clean. The beds were very comfortable, pillows in great shape and great quality linens. I love having a small fridge and coffee machine.
Room was very quiet-well insulated. I did not hear any of the construction going on outside. I did not hear the maid cart or other guests. Wifi was free. Breakfast offered a great variety-waffles, eggs, sausage, pastries, yogurt. I didn't like the eggs and sausage but happy with everything else. The business center was very nice to have. The staff was very attentive to our needs. The area is very quiet, away from the hussle and bussle of Time Square.
We had checked out the last day but left our luggages downstairs since we wanted to do some last minute shopping around the area. There were a variety of stores and vendors all around. We were close to Little Italy, Chinatown, Soho and the Financial District. Brooklyn was just over the bridge.
When we got back, we were told we left something in our room.
The room rates happen to be high that week due to the 9/11 anniversary demands, the city was in full capacity.

Room Tip: We were happy on the 5th floor but did not hear any complaints from the other people we were there w...

We stayed for 4 nights at the end of September and were all-over happy with this hotel - we had a very nice spacious corner room on the sixth floor with great views towards Brooklyn Bridge from the terrace. The hotel staff was really friendly and helpful. Breakfast included in the room rate was really good, better than we would normally prepare at home on a daily basis - and a great choice of yoghurts! The on-going construction work on Peck Slip did not bother us, we spent our days elsewhere and evenings in the hotel were always nice and quiet. We will definitely consider staying here next time we visit New York!

Room Tip: Sixth floor rooms are nice

We spent six nights here in Sept. 2012. After having a horrific experience with a "Condo Rental" in New York City we called this hotel and luckily they had rooms for us.
It was a very pleasant stay. The hotel staff went out of their way to be helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Even though the hotel was full it was quiet and did not feel crowded.
Good location for "Statue of Liberty" and WTC. The TKTS booth is close by. Great little bar and grill across from hotel, Nelson Blue. We enjoyed the quiet atmosphere after a busy day in the city.
Construction out front was a little annoying but that will soon be over.

First trip to NYC and not knowing what to expect, had some doubts when seeing the outside of the hotel. Not exactly inviting. However, staff was happy and helpful. Room was much better than the exterior portrayed. Second floor roof fronted the main street. Due to construction, we were awakened early. Wasn't too inconvenient since we didn't plan on sleeping late. A/C positioned high on the wall was perfect - cooled the room without blowing directly on you. Not a large hotel & that's what we preferred - didn't want something with 20 floors and tons of guests. Very quiet and unhurried setting. Two elevators made coming/going very quick. Breakfast was light compared to other B/W's, but not bad. Computer with printer in breakfast room was a plus. Able to print out maps for the day. Parking in nearby garage reasonable for NYC - $20/day. Very short distance from Holland Tunnel made finding it pretty simple. Walked to ground zero. $20 cab ride to theater district, Pier 86 or Times Square. All in all a good location. Friendly staff who can give great directions to everything!!

Room Tip: would suggest higher floor to eliminate street noise

Having stayed uptown for four days, we had booked here to look around downtown, but after the noisy poky place we had stayed in we were not expecting much. What a pleasant surprise, friendly staff, who actually made us feel welcome, a good sized room with everything we needed, including a fridge and quiet air con. Free breakfast in the morning, coffee available in the lounge area at all times, just help yourself, it was great. Plus, the area is lovely, so much to see and really good restaurants and bars in the village area surrounding the hotel, which is a few minutes from Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, Battery Park,(where all the ferries and trips to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island go from) and a short walk to China Town and Little Italy. Can't recommend this hotel enough, staying downtown for our last four days, made our holiday.
