We spent the first night ouf our wedding weekend at The Plaza. Unbeatable location, beautiful and very luxurious room with an increadible bathroom. Service was excellent. Could not be a better way to start off a wedding weekend. Had drinks at the bar which over looks the stunning lobby.

My 8 year old daughter and I spent 7 nights in a suite on the top floor of this fabulous hotel, after having spent 3 nights at the Waldorf Astoria (separate review). The two hotels are worlds apart, yet seem to vie for the same clientele.....?

The Plaza was magnificent.
The location, the suite, decor, amenities and the service were fantastic.
Everything is at your fingertips...Central Park, Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue, short walk to Broadway etc.

Downside - there was more than one occasion when there was no doorman outside in the street. Normally this would go unnoticed, however when we arrived there was no doorman to be found, although he did come rushing out as soon as we started lugging our bags up the steps.....and again when we departed there was no doorman around, only to magically appear after we had started taking our bags down the steps. I also noticed it a couple of other times during our stay, which seemed really strange.

If you are going to baulk at the price of things, then I wouldn't recommend staying here. It is expensive, but that is a 5 star hotel for you. It keeps the rif raf out and frankly that is why staying in lovely hotels such as the Plaza is a joy.

I would recommend this to anyone who could afford it. We will definitely be back.

Had to make a short business trip in NYC in September and rooms were ridiculously expensive. A travel agent I work with got me the Edwardian Suite King at a steep discount at a time when NYC 4-star hotels were charging around $500+/night for rooms. I cannot say enough about how comfortable and luxurious the room was . . . and because it was a suite, I had a great environment to work in! A couple of problems: 1) the first room I was assigned had someone else sleeping in it when I opened it (at least there was no extra charge!) and 2) my room was supposed to come with butler service but I never saw or heard from him, my guess it that maybe he was out visiting Mr. Giles French's grave site. But these were all minor things and overall I loved my stay here and would recommend The Plaza (especially if you can get a good discount!)

Room Tip: get a good travel agent who can negotiate one for you!

We spent three nights at the Plaza. The location is unbeatable. The best shopping on 5th Avenue at your doorsteps. You can also go north on Madison (one block east) and you wont be disappointed. Great restaurants all around the hotel and at the hotel too.
You can walk to a play on Broadway from the hotel and on the way there enjoy window and people watching. The neighborhood is quite safe.

The service was impeccable and the staff very friendly. The deluxe room was large especially by NYC standards. The bathroom was large with beautiful mosaic tiles.

Breakfast was included in our reservation and it was delicious. You can order from the menu or go for the buffet. The staff at the restaurant was also great. Drinks in the evening at the lobby was relaxing - not crowded and again the service wonderful. Don't miss the shops downstairs. Their is a sushi bar, sandwiches, sweets and more - all reasonably priced so you do not have to go outside to get a simple meal - it is all there.

I would highly recommend this hotel for couples and families. It is worth the extra expense on so many levels. I intend to stay there again next time we visit NYC. By the way, The Plaza recently underwent a $400 million renovation and it shows. ENJOY!

Room Tip: If you get a room with a terrible view of a wall or roof top tiles, as we initially did, call the...

Popped in for a look during a morning walk.
Spent about 10-15 minutes admiring the lobby etc.
Security and other staff on duty.
Preparations under way for breakfast.
Most impressed with the decor.
Remember to say "G'day" to the staff.

We stayed this week for a couple of nights.

The location is perfect - right next to Central Park at 5th Avenue and 57th Street.

The bed ( unarguably I believe, the most important part of a hotel stay) was terrible. Both of us did not sleep well in the bed, which appeared to be full of "pockets" that were soft.

yes, no question - the rooms are very attractive and very large compared to others in New York. Butler service - not used, and well trained, professional courteous staff are everwhere in the hotel.

When the rooms go from 1000 to about 2800 per night, I can't understand why a bottle of water is $9 and pancakes $28.

Nice location, Ostentatious, and wouldn't visit again

We stayed at the Plaza for 4 nights and were very pleased with our accomodations. The room was ample sized and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel was nearby many great restaurants, not too far from theatres, and surrounded by substantial (walkable) shopping options. Front desk staff was courteous and professional. The bellmen and drivers were exceptional. The staff in the fitness area was curt and unfriendly, which leads to my only gripe, resulting in the demotion from "excellent" to "very good". Most hotel fitness facilities offer a complimentary (albeit small) bottle of water. When inquiring about water, I was directed to purchase water from the undergroung market area, or use the very low to the ground drinking fountain, which was away from the cardio equipment. For safety sake, at least having cups available could prevent passing from bending down so low with raised heartrate. Headsets were not available and the new fitness area was crowded. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
