“NOT RECOMMENDED”
Reviewed June 10, 2010

NOT RECOMMENDED. The main problems,
- Management were rude and aggressive
- Toilets regularly clogged
- Severely overcrowded
- Not everyone who paid got an actual bed – some were told to sleep on a sofa!
- Beds were designed for children not adults
- It took 10mins to unlock or lock the room every time.
If you can find somewhere else to stay – do. Although the location is convenient I would have preferred to stay somewhere slightly further out with a better atmosphere and facilities. I have stayed in hostels all over the world and rarely been so disappointed as with this one.

Although this hostel is called "Times Square Hostel" it's actually in the Meat Packing District. There are no signs outside to indicate it's a hostel and you have to pay cash up front for your entire stay - so I'm guessing there's some kind of dodgy tax dealings going on. The two guys that run it are incredibly unfriendly and became aggressive when we asked for a proper bed rather than a sofa bed. The rooms are tiny and the bathrooms are shared by a minimum of 7 people. To make matters worse, our toilet blocked twice during a 5 day stay and the shower was either boiling or freezing and the handle kept falling off. The beds are also tiny and the bunk beds we did have were really rickety. The keys we had for the dorm door didn't fit properly and it took ages to be able to lock or unlock the door.
Basically this hostel is awful and I would not recommend it to anyone.

There is something not quite right about the operation. I'm pretty sure their location was condemned and they've quickly scrambled to get some rooms available.

The address associated with the hostel is locked up with signs saying it has been condemned. When you meet the host there, you are taken up the street to another place. That place looks like a normal apartment they rented out and threw some lockers and bunks into.

In the end though, you get a nice room with a decent shower. Also, despite the signs saying there is no bag storage, they let me leave my bags until 6 and pick them up later.

I visited NYC for the first time from April 21st to 25th and I booked a room at Times Square Hostel (453 West 47th Street, 2nd Floor) for 5 nights. Everything was fine for the first night but when I arrived at the second night there were some guys using my bed, one of them was using drugs. My luggage was still there but there was no place to sleep. I complaint to the manager and he said he could not do anything about that. It was 1:00 am and I had to find a place to sleep in the middle of the night ! … and despite all the problems, I could not have my money back (fully payment was requested when I arrived).
I was luck because I went to a Brasilian restaurant close to the hostel and they indicated a small but nice hotel close to the place (New York Inn at 8th av)
So, if you are looking for a hostel in New York close to Time Square, please DON EVEN THINK IN GOING TO THE TIMES SQUARE HOSTEL at 47 th). I was really lucky because nothing more serious happened to me, but this history could have a terrible ending.
Good trip and enjoy the city – it is one of the best cities I visited.

I was eight nights in this hostel. When you enter the building it is believed that one is not a good hostel. BUT then, you love is being there, right after the second day. I loved. It is clean, and comfortable, the hostelman (William chinese) is very polite, nice and helpful, you have a terrace overlooking the street (good in summer). Have a family environment. I was always safe. The lockers give to save the wallet, passport and smaller things. Have micro wave, fridge and bottled water (50cent). In addition to all this has two computer with free internet.I go back there again! The hostel is very close to Port authoraty station (42st) and you can walk to times square and broodway. The Port authoraty Station takes you to where you want. To reach the hostel from JFK, you have to take the airtrain to Jamaica (stop) get there and take line "E" subway is very simple and then stop in Porth authoraty station, trip time - 40minutos ( 4Dollars). From newark, you have to take a airtrai to newark-Penn station and then take the train to penn station, when you arrive in Penn station you´ll stay in centrl of Manhattan...15 dollars.
Recommended: Buy a CityPAss in museus (74dollars) and buy a 7days subway ticket 25dollars. Times Square Comfort hostel is a very very good hostel but very simple!

This hostal is a great value for travellers who have a limited budget. The staff was super friendly (special thanks to Philip), the bathrooms clean and the rooms, although tiny, clean as well. The beds were very comfortable and warm.
You hear a lot of noise, however, you will have this problem in every hostel in NY (just use earplugs and you ll be fine). The people I shared the room with were always very respectful.
Also there are small lockers in the room and 2 computers with free internet.
The hostel is super close to the bus and subway terminal with direkt transport to JFK and into the downtown. Within 10-15 minutes you can walk to broadway and Times Square.

Great experience in a good location!
