First of all, BB Lodges gets a 5* rating from me because it far exceeded all expectations I had prior to my arrival. I stayed in #4, @1598 Lex.
I was looking for someplace affordable with a neighborhood feel to it and knowing Manhattan fairly well, fully expected to find a cramped, older looking room with a bathroom/shower. I was pleasantly surprised to walk into a clean, freshly painted studio apt with kitchenette and a charming balcony. For me, this was perfect.
The bed was comfortable, and the apartment was warm (even when it was 5F outside). The bathroom was adequate, everything functional.
I stayed on the 2nd floor, up one flight of stairs.
Neighborhood felt very safe, not too busy, and easy to navigate.
Located at 101st & Lexington Ave, its only a very short block to the nearest subway station. Only 20-25 minutes to get from my apt to my meeting in midtown. The one morning I was running late, I hailed a taxi. With a gas station just up the street taxis were always available (~$15 to midtown).
The convenience of having just about any shop you might need within 1/2 mile walk was a huge plus. Groceries and a pharmacy within 3 blocks, more choices if you go all the way to 86th.
Central park and the Museum Mile is a 10 minute walk to the West.
Jonathan and Clement are excellent hosts. Very accommodating. Highly recommend.

We stayed at Bubba and Bean for two weeks from 24th dec to 11 th Jan 2014. We wanted to have a true NYC stay. Our accommodation was clean, well equipped and central to everything, subway, central park ,museums etc . On arrival we were welcomed with complimentary basket. Clement and Jonathan were helpful with recommending restaurants, grocery stores and church for Xmas mass! Our apartment was serviced daily. We loved the quaint setup and had a safe and secure haven to return to at days end.

Found the location very quiet for NYC, and the best thing was it was very clean and handy to have two bathrooms and bedrooms, as we were two couples sharing the one apartment. Stayed for one week and place was kept very clean during our whole stay.
Easy to catch Bus or Train from this location.
Would stay again if heading back to NYC.

We really enjoyed our stay here, only bad point was it went too quickly! We had based our booking on reviews and we were not disappointed. In comparison to some of the more central places to stay at an equivalent price, we thought it was a good value for money. The building is well maintained and the apartment was immaculate (with a regular maid service). It is essentially a self catering apartment with a coffee machine, fridge, hob and microwave, although we never cooked. There's too many good places to eat out! The shower was powerful, always a good thing. I agree with the previous review that some more towel hooks would be handy, but not a big issue. We ended up in a quad room (only 2 of us) so had ample space, it would be perfect for a small group. We slept comfortably on a night and it was pretty quiet despite our room facing onto Lexington Ave. Location is good and so close to 103rd St subway. Central Park is also close. We went for a run around the reservoir which was a great morning activity before entering the city's hustle and bustle and the view of the skyline is amazing, east and west.

Without too much detail, here's a couple of tips for NYC....
Buy a 7 day metro card for $30 asap. It will give you unlimited travel on the subway.
Book your Top of the Rock and 9/11 passes in advance if you can. It's worth it if you are trying to see lots in a short space of time as there are always lines and you might not get in when you want. Empire State tickets are valid anytime for a year after purchase.

We were really grateful to Jonathan and Clement for organising a car back to JFK for us and also allowing us to keep our room after checkout as they didn't need it that night, it made a huge difference to us before our journey home. We'll be back if we come to NYC again! Thank you!

We stayed at B&B for 5 nights in Nov 2013. We had a couples room on the first level near the street. Here are the things we liked about Bubba&Bean

1. King size bed - comfy
2. Wi-Fi - good strong service included
3. Kitchenette - nice to have frig to store breakfast items and drinks
4. Price - very reasonable and less than most anything else I could find when booking
5. Customer service - good communication beforehand. Arranged a car for our trip back to airport

Things I think they could do better.

1. Hooks or towel racks in the bathroom. No place to hang your towels
2. Shelf space in the bathroom was also lacking
3. Shower - we were always fighting with the temperature.. too hot or too cold. and would change on you frequently
4. Stools for table in our room were rickety plastic with no backs. We did not feel safe or comfortable sitting on them. It would have been nice to have a decent chair to sit in other than the bed.

We enjoyed our trip to NYC and used the subway to get around. While this place is a little out of the way, the subway makes it easy to get wherever you need to go. However, the 6 line is always crowded, especially at peak times.

This is an extremely great place to stay in New York!!! It is not in the centre of all of the all the hustle and bustle of New York but it is so easy to get on the subway that it is so easy to get around. The owners are so helpful, the rooms are well equipped. Highly recommended!!!

loved staying at Bubba and Bean, the room was a good size for NYC, clean and felt just like our own apartment. the location is a very short walking distance from the subway and there are lots of food choices nearby. If you;re into galleries, its also a shortish, healthy walk to central park and the museum mile. While the neighbourhood area might look a little more grungy than some of the more flashy areas of NYC, i did not feel unsafe at all, even using the local subway and walking the streets towards midnight, and the locals were very friendly. I'd definitely return here, the price and amenities are totally worth it if you don't mind using the subway to get to some of the other tourist spots on Manhattan.

Room Tip: Away from the street front would be quieter
