We stayed in a double room for only one night and it was dirty, full of bugs and hot as hell. Internal window view was as ugly as it can be. Location pretty nice neighborhood.

This is my thind time at Candy and it will be my last. Free WiFi is gone, despite what the website says, and it has been replaced by $2 for 20 min at their computers or $8 for a day, (not 24 hours of random access, as the guy at the desk told me), for a WiFi connection that works about half the time. Cold outside today, cold in the lounge, super cold in my room. Shame, because I used to like this place.

This is not a luxury place and we didn't pay to stay in a luxury hotel. The staff was friendly, the bathrooms were clean, the room was simple, but o.k. The location was great. We were in our room for sleep only, and so it worked out ok.

The bad: One staff (not sure who) came in to change linens and looted our small change that was laying out (maybe they thought it was a tip). Whoever decorated the place could really make a huge difference just by painting the walls and ceilings of the hostel neutral tones, instead of the obnoxioius sherbert colors they are ( I realize it is calle the CANDY, but these colors are garrish). It hurt to look around. There was a woodtick in one of our beds-yuck- and one bed did not get a mattress cover on it. Stay if you are on a budget and just want a bed. My children and I were not afraid-the location is great- and we got to spend our money on things such as the sights and all the great food!

The Candy Hostel was a huge disappointment! The lobby was dirty from the get-go! The sheets and towels were stained! We, unfortunately, were booked for 9 nights. We tried everything to get expedia to upgrade us to a better hotel but to no avail. I spent over 6 hours on the phone with them [mostly on hold] and although the Expedia staff sounded like they wanted to help us they never did. We got cut off several times and each time they never called me back so I went through being on hold again for 20-30 minutes before even being spoken too.[They were expecting a high volume of calls.] Then I would have to go through the whole story again and be transferred to someone else and then someone else. Only once in the 7 nights that we actually stayed, did they offer us clean towels. Actually they were more like rags-they didn't smell great and didn't look great and were very thin [like the sheets]. The other 6 nights we had to ask for them and were repeatedly told that they had no key to the laundry and we would have to wait until morning. The elevator was very slow so we usually took the stairs up 6 flights. The stairs, apparently ,were never cleaned. There were dirty pieces of chewed up gum on them, among other debris. One evening while I was using one of their computers, one of the staff members started yelling at someone on the phone and swearing up a storm! It was ridiculous and very unprofessional! When I complained to another customer she said that this hostel is opperating illegally and that it is actually for New York tenants. She said she has lived there over 10 years! I feel sorry for her. The hostel was also incredibly noisy at night. It sounded like a party house on the first floor! [perhaps because it was spring break] Also, room 601 has BEDBUGS! That was a very disturbing discovery! I would highly discourage anyone froming staying there.

I don't know what's up with all the bad reviews, the place wasn't that bad, I booked a double private room (which is just a room with a full size bed) and every thing was very clean in the room, the sheets, pillows, bed, everything. housekeeping cleaned the room and shared bathroom everyday. Now the room was very small and it had nothing but a bed, shelf and a closet. but remember THIS IS A HOSTEL not a HOTEL! and for 35 bucks a night I got more than my money's worth. didn't see not one single bug and the hostel staff was cool as hell. this place is very cool for people who will be out all day and night and just need a clean place to sleep. The neighborhood was great and very safe even at night. I would stay here again.
