We booked to stay here because we thought we'd try and save some money on accomodation and the website made it look really great. Upon arrival, they had clearly lost our reservation and after a few phone calls we were told they had a room for us. So we got sent to the next street up to a room at Hostel Fresh! It was terrible. The room was tiny, bedding was old, worn and ripped. The pillows were so feral we ended up sleeping on our travel neck pillows. Wireless internet was only available in the lobby where you had other people leering over your shoulder and trying to "borrow" your laptop. We had one share bathroom with one toilet and one shower in our corridor so it was almost impossible to get a chance to use it. Children playing and yelling in the corridor late at night. All in all the Candy Hostel/Hostel Fresh was a major jib. Don't believe the websites.

Please whatever you do NEVER stay at this hostel, please. We checked in and literally 5 minutes after we asked to get a refund and they would NOT allow it and we paid CASH for two rooms. The bed's were rock hard, and the room was NOT big enough for two full size beds and 4 people we was squished. There were roaches. We seen two rats. When the bathroom ran out of toilet paper we asked them to refill it and they said word for word "There are 6 bathrooms use another one" which i found outrageously rude so my boyfriend snuck into there supply room and took a roll and we kept it in our room. The toilets over flow all the time. There was hair all in the shower the hallways smelt like someone had taken a dump. There was gum stuck to the walls. The blankets and towels were dirty. And they wouldn't change our sheets. We could hear people having sex. When i was in the bathroom an employer walked right in on me. Please do not waste your money, there are better places to stay. There was one thing i did like is that it was very close to the Subway. We were never in the room because it was hideous. we would leave at 11am and come back around 12am.

After reading the reviews before arriving at the hostel I was terrified. However, it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. When we arrived at the Hostel we were upgraded and placed into a private room with a private bathroom even though we didn't pay for it. Our room was wasn't the greatest (extremely dirty bathroom, dirty blankets, and super small). However we were bed bug free and in a safe location so we could look past these things. The shower ended up not working and the electricity went out during out last night which was extremely annoying. The people at the front desk didn't seem to care much about our problems and were not helpful at all. I would not recommend this hostel for families or couples. However, it would be fine for friends. You aren't going to find anywhere else in Manhattan for only sixty bucks a night. Just bring your own blankets and pillows!

The hotel was dirty - there was urine in the shared bathroom everywhere!
The rooms had rat traps!
Children running around the halways when your trying to get some sleep.
Rooms too small.

The only good thing is that it was in a good location then again i suppose you get what you pay for - thank god we were out of the hotel most of the time!

I stayed with my husband in a double room, so I didn´t need to share a bathroom. We needed to beg for toilet paper and clean towels (which, by the way, were very small and old). But, like others said here, you get what you pay for. Is well located and cheap, considering NYC prices.
