booked this table based on trip advisor ratings through open table. We arrived and were seated by a pleasant Russian lady. She was attentive and helpful in our selections and when we sent back one steak she was very kind and checked on us again to make sure all was ok. Nice location very central,. Like most Italians it was quiet small and the tables were very close together. Not very expensive and worth a visit.

We were in NY for a few days for a birthday treat. After reading the reviews, chose Basso56 for one of our dinners. We had booked and when we arrived, it was very busy (8.30pm). The lady at the bar was very friendly which was a good start to our night.

Unfortunately for us, we were given a table very close to a family celebration - around 14 people. They were obviously having a great time, but we found it very difficult to talk to each other and it really spoilt the night. The food was good, although my fish did taste burnt, as the skin had been overcooked. The waitress was very pleasant and efficient. On leaving, we did say that our evening had not been a great success because of the noise. The manager insisted we have a limoncello and a dessert to make up for the issue of the constant noise. This was a very nice touch and much appreciated by us.

We selected Basso56 partly based on other Trip Advisor reviews as well as its location since we had theatre tickets after dinner. Our reservation however was 3 hours before the show. We arrived to an almost empty restaurant. No problem. We hoped for a reasonably leisurely meal. Our waitress obliged. The chef probably did not. Our appetizer arrived very quickly so we asked for a 10 minute "pause" before we got the main course. No problem from the waitress however as soon as we told the waitress to have the kitchen prepare the main course we got it in seconds. It was all ready and waiting in an oven for our "signal". Yes, it was delicious. Yes, it is the way of busy restaurants especially with a line forming at the door after awhile, however as paying guests we all desire freshly prepared food. That said, the meal was still delicious. The bruschetta as starters, was outstanding. I had the Orechietta Pasta with Sausage and Broccholi Rabe, which was outstanding. A definite recommendation, if you can handle the meal at the restaurants pace.

For an excellent meal with prompt and efficient service at reasonable prices (at least for NYC) look no further than this restaurant. Seating is tight but the restaurant has a nice vibe with really good food and great service. A couple had 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 bottle of wine, 2 desserts and 2 after dinner drinks for less than $200, incl. tip. Make your reservation today!

Decided to have dinner there with my parents before flying home, and found a new favorite in NYC.
Very kind staff. Amazing food: fresh breads, tomato bruschetta, Caprese salad, and pasta made with love.
I would recommend the Rigatone a la bolognese.
Lovely experience!!
