We recently flew in from SF to meet up with some friends from Sweden for dinner. Our friends picked the restaurant based on reviews on TripAdvisor. Thanks everyone - great suggestion! First of all - the service was outstanding!! Our server was originally from Russia - and she really hit it off with our Swedish friends which made for a fun part of the evening (and later she brought us Limoncello shots on the house). We have access to a lot of great Italian food in SF, so our standards are pretty high. I have to say that we really enjoyed the meal at Basso56. The food was interesting - creative and unusual without being wacky or too far out. All the ingredients were extremely fresh and everything was prepared to perfection. And they offered negroni's - always a hit with me - we ordered them for the table, and everyone enjoyed. Perfectly balanced so the Campari did not overwhelm the drink. We also enjoyed the wine list - which had a really nice selection at a variety of price points. We found a great Amarone - which is generally hard to find in restaurants and retail in SF - so we jumped all over it. In fact, they had several Amarone's - and the price was close to SF retail for the one we chose. It was great and helped us create our own atmosphere at the table. In summary, excellent service...really great drink options...super food...loads of fun vibe. Really great meal with outstanding company! We had a great time and would return.
