“Perfect!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed. As requested we were offered a non smoking room. Since we had changed our mind we were then moved into a smoking room with the very nice offer to change us back to a non smoking room if the smokers room was too smoky :-)

The room was really very spacious - a junior suite - with separate living room with a nice sofa and even a rocking chair :-), the bath in white marbel, clean and spacious. The beds super comfi. And the smokers room did not smell of smoke at all!

During our stay the staff stayed as friendly and helpful as they had started out and finished off with a late check out until 2pm.

The location of the hotel is perfect - between shopping on 5th and Time Square, close to the Central Park ... what else to say: we just loved it! And we will certainly be back!

Besides been in a great location, our room was more like a one bedroom. Extremely cormfortable and big for NYC standards, the rooms are the best. Breakfast (we went out the whole day) was very good and so was the service. Walking distance from Central Park, Columbus Circle, Times Square and so on. Verynice hotel and definitely will consider on my next trip to NYC.

We stayed here for 4 days from 15th November to celebrate my 40th and booked through AMEX Fine Hotels. The London Suite we booked was very spacious - separate lounge area with doors to bedroom but only a shower (which I could live with for 4 days). As part of the booking process we were eligible for a room upgrade so asked if our street view room could be changed for a Central Park one. The reception staff aren't the friendliest in the world, not in a rude way - more lacking in personality! We were told there were no rooms available but that they would keep checking - sure enough, a few hours later they were able to offer us a Park View room (which in essence was an identical room (plus bath!) on the opposite side of the hotel - but a lot brighter.
The room itself was very clean and the bed extremely comfy.
Also as part of the booking, we were given daily breakfast vouchers and one afternoon tea voucher. These were a godsend as buffet breakfast amounted to $56 a day otherwise! The restaurant was also very clean, well staffed and the buffet breakfast well stocked with fruit, cheese, meats, smoked salmon!
We didn't eat in the Ramsay restaurant as it was too expensive and the man himself wasn't going to be cooking for us! For those not used to american food portions, we didn't actually have an evening meal the entire time we were there as the lunch 'sandwiches' were enormous!

If you want a hotel that is a stone's throw from Times Square, Fifth Ave, Central Park, Broadway then this is a good option for first timers who can afford it and want a bit of luxury.
If I were to go again, now I know the city I would probably book the Hilton as you really do only use your room to sleep and dump your shopping!

Room Tip: Ask for a Park View room on a high floor. We were on floor 34 and had an OK view so anything up from...

We stayed at The London over New Years and we would definitely go back to this hotel. The rooms are very spacious, the beds very comfortable and overall the service was excellent. The front desk staff, bellmen and concierge were friendly & helpful and the doormen who helped us get transportation were outstanding. We got several rides in hotel cars which was really helpful. It was expensive (like all hotels in NYC over New Years) but in exceeding our expectations, it met the value for money test.

The London is now on our favorite hotels list!

We stayed a second time at this hotel as it is one of the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts properties (FHR) for Centurion members.

As reflected in other reviews, the location is excellent with easy walk to shops and theatres in midtown, and the rooms are quite spacious by New York standards. They are a calm, warm oasis to return to on a cold winter's day. The free internet service is fast and efficient.

On both occasions we have stayed here, we were disappointed not receiving the complementary room upgrade which is a feature of the Amex FHR benefits. We realise that this was a busy time of year, but the absence of an upgrade again on this second stay at The London seemed quickly dismissed as unimportant by the staff at the front desk who came across as impersonal and somewhat indifferent. This was further compounded by being placed on a lower floor than our previous stay and in a room right next to the lifts and with a smaller bathroom than our previous experience.

The buffet breakfast was impressive as ever, and even though our benefits package entitled us only to the Continental Breakfast with no hot foods, it was nonetheless an extensive and satisfying selection of fruits, cold cuts, pastries, etc. It should be noted that cappucino coffees are not included in the buffet and are charged extra.

After checkout, we required a cab to Penn station. The doorman actually arranged for us to be taken free of charge in the hotel car. This left us with a very positive final impression of The London Hotel which went towards assuaging our earlier disappointments.

I would therefore suggest that guests booking through Amex FHR should assume they may only get what they pay for. If you are wanting something other than an entry level room on a low floor, you should book and pay for it accordingly to avoid disappointment.

My idea of the perfect hotel - right on the cusp of all the action and main attractions, view of Central Park - fantastic from the higher floors! Trendy, modern, clean layout. Gorgeous shower! Felt more like an apartment than a hotel room. Expensive to eat in the restaurant but in NYC you should be OUT! Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: High up for the best views of New York City.

We just got back (went for Xmas 2012) and the place is incredible.
First visit to NYC made all the more spectacular by having this hotel to go back to each night.
We had a vista suite on the 46th floor and the views were spectacular.
The room was spacious and comfortable with everything you need and extra touches, such as electric curtains and a luxurious double shower with plentiful supplies of in-house toiletries.
I was also lucky enough to find a fully-decorated Xmas tree in my room! Concierge, in cahoots with my lovely boyfriend, had arranged for the tree to be wrestled into a lift and decorated before we arrived! It was so brilliant and a wonderful surprise!
The maids were fab. I have eczema and have to carry large amounts of moisturising cream with me. After a little 'roughing up' between Heathrow and JFK it had exploded everywhere inside my toiletries bag. The first morning I was shattered so left them on the bathroom side for later when I felt up to cleaning all the things it had spilled over.
Later that day we returned to find that the maid, bless her, had cleaned the lot for me and left them nearly on the side. Must have taken her an age so I made sure I thanked her with a note and tip the next day.
Beds had Egyptian cotton sheets and towels were large and fluffy. Dressing gowns were supplied and we loved wearing our matching robes!
Room was clean and well decorated with free wifi :)
Concierge were amazing. Nothing was ever too much, from suggesting and booking restaurants to chatting about attractions and insider info. They were so friendly and we looked forward to waving to them each morning as we passed the desk!
Maze (in house) was such a great restaurant that we ate there twice and also visited the bar. Spotless service and food so wonderful you can still imagine how it tasted.
We had looked forward to this trip for so long and the hotel exceeded all our wildest dreams. We still miss sitting on the sofa with the lamp off, watching the busy city twinkling 46 floors below us.
Awesome. We'll be back :)

Room Tip: If you want a good view, anything above the 40th floor costs a little more but is so worth it!
