“great spot from which to explore New York”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We live in Tribeca and had family come to visit - Smythe is too high end/expensive and the Cosmopotlian is too cheap and weird, so we tried this newer hotel. Our family loved it, we got a really good rate; it was clean, easy and functional.

The downstairs restaurant is confusing, not really a hotel restaurant, not a standard menu, and they simply avoided it. There are diners and Starbucks and 5 star restaurants a block away. It's a great location, close to most subway lines, (especially A,C,E and 1,2,3) easy to tour the city from, and it's incredibly safe neighborhood, so you can come and go as late as you like and it's all good.

It's a great base from which to see the city but it's not a destination hotel, there are no amenities as such, but a cool room, comfortable bed, nice shower...

I would recommend and use again.

We stayed here after a wonderful night on the town

We checked in around 3pm and were greeted before even entering the hotel

The room was small in square footage, but had 13' ceilings which opened it right up. All the furniture etc was new and clean, the bed was very large and comfortable

The small bar/restaurant was empty when we checked in but was PACKED when we got back at the end of the night. We had a drink to relax before turning in and enjoyed the whole atmosphere

Check out was quick and easy, cant wait to stay again

Also, my girlfriend had left her purse in the room. We got a call later that day informing us that they have it and that it would be overnighted to us. Just arrived with the contents accounted for, which is what prompted me to write this review right away :)

This small hotel is more like an upmarket guest house than a hotel.
The rooms are well equipped and the beds are very comfortable with great showers and towels ,robes etc.
A quiet downtown location in a residential area full of locals.
The lobby is shabby chic however and at the moment the sixth floor is being renovated so at 2 in the afternoon beware the noise....
No room service is an issue so as a business hotel it doesn't quite work.
Staff overall helpful but be prepared to carry your own luggage...we had to...

I've stayed at the Duane Street Hotel a few times now as it's the hotel my husband always uses when he is in New York on business. The service is consistently good and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are modern, a reasonable size and well appointed, they are also surprisingly quiet. The bathrooms are nice with lovely toiletries and loads of towels. I have only had breakfast in the restaurant and haven't had a drink in the bar so I can't really comment on them.
The Hotel is really well placed, great restaurants and bars, and unusual shops surround it. I always walk everywhere when I'm in New York and it's easy to do that from the Duane Street, but it's also close to the subway if you need to take a train. If I had one small niggle it would be that the lift is the slowest in the world!

With affordable and well designed hotels an increasingly difficult combination to find, Duane Street fit the bill perfectly. Throw in extremely attentive and efficient staff, a comfortable and reasonably quiet room, and great location -- and you've got a great stay. We'll be back.

I recently spent two nights at the Duane Street Hotel. The staff was wonderfully attentive, friendly and helpful.
It's a really nice small, boutique hotel in a great area of town. The rooms are nicely appointed with all the amenities a business traveler needs (including free internet access) and the rooms feel big for New York City.
I happened to stay on the second floor, and while the room was really sunny and bright (with the floor-to-ceiling windows) it seemed as though I was just above the heads of the pedestrians outside the window.
If you're staying here - which I'd recommend - stay on a high floor.
Thanks for the great stay!

Room Tip: Choose a high floor.

Ideal location when you are fed up with the crowds around time sq, this hotel allows you to discover the hip NY experience. It's two blocks away from subway stations, , rooms are well sized, very good toiletries (all organic), efficient staff, plus all the perks the neighborhood offers: vintage boutiques, art galleries, memorial close by, etc. Tip: Just try to avoid the rooms close to the elevator.
We will go back.
