“Great hotel, staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

Really, just about the nicest staff we've encountered anywhere. No attitude, all helpful. Front desk, housekeeping, genuinely friendly, helpful. We had corner king room, 5th floor, decent views, very good light, interesting decor, not over the top. Great bed, very comfy. Personally would not want to be on the 2nd floor, too close to street. Lobby area is cramped, not really a place to hang out for long, although there is a very small bar next to it. (It is not at all like the Tribeca or Soho Grand hotels with big lobbies, etc. Of course, it doesn't have the attitude those hotels have, either....) Location is very good for exploring lower Manhattan. (Ask about finding the coffee shop that serves a "flat white"....or for a fun place to drink and learn about wine - Terroir Wine Bar.) Overall, very high marks.

Room Tip: Corner king rooms are worth extra expense, excellent light. I would not want to stay on the second f...

A clean and sleek independent hotel. I've stayed at similarly-styled The MAve on Madison and 27th, and found the service there superior to Duane. The staff at Duane seem aloof, or maybe I expect more initiative from them on offering to hail a cab, asking if I need to find specific places. The room is fantastic, one of the larger ones on the floor. I love that there is minimal carpeting and the stone wall shower. Great desk area for business. Spread out your lap top and have space for writing and your coffee. I read the service directory which said there was complimentary shoe shine. It said to leave shoes outside of door and they'd arrive by 7 a.m. I called the concierge to make sure someone would pick up the shoes. They said it's not complimentary but should be around $6. I say "fine." I use the laundry receipt to indicate I need my shoes no later than 8:30 am. When I stepped out for coffee at 8 am I asked the front desk if my shoes would be ready no later than 9 a.m. The attendant said she thought they were across the street, but I would have them by then. 9:20 rolls around, I am ready to leave for my meeting- no shoes. I call the front desk and she says she was not aware I needed them by a certain time. I ask if the shoes are still here, she says yes. I say "forget the shine, I need them now." Another 7 minutes goes by before they come. This "trivial" incidence, which should be a slam dunk for a hotel that wants to stand out for service, made me late for my meeting, which was the primary reason I was in NYC. Not cool, and likely will keep me from staying here again. Otherwise, hotel facility is excellent.

Great hotel for couples or friends in one of the best tourist location for visiting NY, full of cool shops and restaurants. The hotel is few steps from subway and 2-3 blocks to great shopping, little italy, and chinatown.
The rooms are beautiful and new with free wi-fi access. The quality of sleep was perfect...and you really need this when you travel! The guys at the reception are really friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to all my friends!!!!

if you appreciate well appointed and designed small hotels, you should try the Duane. great location in TriBeCa, walkable to plenty of cool bars and restaurants. the rooms are small but beautiful. comfy beds. i had an interesting view from the 2nd floor, as the room had floor to ceiling windows that looked right out onto the street, where a bunch of black town cars were idling. kinda weird, but the curtains were thick and the sound proofing amazing, so it was quiet. if you can get the Duane on special rate, it's worth a visit.

Great hotel in the increasingly trendy Tribeca area of NYC. And a short stroll to SoHo.
Our room, although small (just like most New York hotels) was well appointed and surprisingly quite given its location. The bathroom was also well appointed, with excellent toiletries and plush towels. The biggest plus however, was the bed. We have stayed in countless hotels and never have we slept in a more comfortable bed as that in the Duane. Even the long pillows seemed to envelope you into a warm cocoon.
The hotel's other big plus is its staff. The guys on the front dress, (all hipster cool) always greeted you as you left or returned, and were ready to provide helpful tips and advice on places to go. Of particular mention was Michael, who would often walk you to the front door.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family. Service, comfort and location are exceptional.

I' ve been there last February for a 5 nights stay.
The hotel is really well situated. It' s modern and new. Very good value for money for NY. there are a lot of shops, pubs, bars, restaurants all around.
Room was comfortable, with everything you can need. Good wi-fi access. Clean. Just a little bit noisy because on road side but we are in city then it 's okay.
All the staff was efficient, helpful and friendly. Everything is made and thought for you to have a pleasant stay and I have appreciated highly this sensation. After a long day in the streets of NY, it was very good to stay in this boutique hotel.

Great spot if you have done uptown or midtown. Much more relaxed, no crowds. Duane Hotel puts in all together from service, clean room, high end staff with a get it done attitude. Walk the side streets to find hidden pubs and lunch spots. WTC is only a few blocks away also.
