“Spend the Day like a Local”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Since I first "Lived" in NYC as a summer school student at NYU - going to WHATEVER they are doing at the Delacorte has been on the top of my to-do list for every visit. The experience will be somewhere between two extremes, both good in their own way.
If the show is getting Rave reviews, seeing the show for free is a day long committment.
If the cast never gelled and the stage design is out shining the leads, drop by around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and they will probably still have tickets.
Either way you get to see theater with one or more TV or Movie stars in it and walk through part of the park at night while feeling fairly safe and all for $0.00!

“Highlight of My Summer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012 via mobile

Saw "Into the Woods" in August. Fantastic cast, absolutely worth waiting 9 hours in Central Park for. Delacorte theater is an absolutely beautiful, and the show was fantastic. Already looking forward to next years' SITP.

“"Into the woods" Shakespeare in the Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

We went to see "Into the Woods" which is Sondheim but still part of the Shakespeare in the Park summer shows. It was a free production but people do not realize that you must wait in line for the free tickets. I got to the line which starts on Central Park West and 81st street at 5:45am (at 6am the line moves into the park). Thankfully I sat next to some great people and we chatted throughout the day. There are a lot of homeless people and general shady people who are in the front of the line who sell their tickets to those who want to pay $50+/ea for the 2 tickets they can get each day. I must say that people should come prepared with food/drink and a comfortable seat. Hours in line is a pain especially when the ground is hard as a rock. One nice thing is that there are delivery folks who are around if you want to order food from their cafe. Also, there is no cutting in line or switching out people mid morning. Those who start the line must end with the line otherwise they will not give you tickets. I didn't believe this but i did see at least 2 people who tried to cheat the system and were denied tickets. Anyways the show was great. It was lovely to sit outside in the park on a nice night in NYC especially when seeing a show that is funny and with great music. I would stand in line again and recommend people get there before 7am.

“At least once in a life time”

As a native NYer, I always wanted to see a play at the Delacorte. Finally had my chance this summer. Didn't wait in line, made a generous contribution to Shakespeare in the Park but it was worth it.

“Shakespeare Remembered”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2012

The Delacorte Theater is Located in middle of central park, at 80th Street, Manhattan, New York. It's seating capacity is 1,800 persons. This Public Theater is an open-air horseshoe-shaped amphitheater hosting summer series of annual 'Shakespeare in the Park' drama shows for the public. .

Tickets are free, but you need to wait on line. We were told that opening of this Theater was with a production of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.

They are celebrating 50th Anniversary this year. Must see if you are lucky to get tickets...
