we were looking for hotels in the theater district in new york city....
we found the hotel mela and what a find!!!!
they had a special which ..included breakfast and valet parking...
the location was the best that you could ask for....the staff was so friendly ...the hotel appearance was sleek and modern
we arrived several hours before check in...they allowed us to use valet parking not only before check in but we were meeting friends and they let us over extend valet and room by an hour...
every request was met with a smile....

Hotel in 44th street, just near Times Square. Rooms are very clean and nice. Beds are good. Breakfast not included, but next door there's a nice bistro where you can have a fantastic breakfast for 18 $. Just look out for the mini-bar! We didn't used it - but back home there was an amount of 5$ taken of our visa-card(you have to give that when you check in). Location is very good, Bryant Park, Central Station, Rockefeller, the harbour for the statute of liberty-cruise all nearby and possible by foot.

Room Tip: We were on the 15th floor - just watch out for the noise of the airco outside!

We stayed at Hotel Mela for one night to see a show nearby. The hotel is stylish throughout, and the small lobby feels busy and sophisticated. The rooms, while small, are well-organized, so they are actually quite comfortable. The staff is nice, the location is great for Broadway fans, and there's free wi-fi throughout the hotel, including in all guest rooms. The bed was comfortable (lots of comfy pillows), there were reading lights for each of us on the headboard, the room was clean, the water pressure was good, and there was plenty of hot water. Even the little soaps and things in the bathroom were high-quality. For the location and time of year, the price was quite good (our reservation did NOT include breakfast, but we didn't need it).

It is definitely a tourist hotel. It lacks some of the amenities we're used to when staying at hotels aimed at business travelers. There are no ice machines. If you want ice, you have to order it from room service. The ironing board is a mini one (maybe 2.5 feet long and 3 inches high). There was also nowhere to sit in our room, other than the bed. On the other hand, the bathroom (which had a full tub) felt quite spacious, given the size of the space, and had a lot of light through a frosted window.

I want to say a few words about parking. The hotel offers valet parking at $50 for each 24 hours, or any part thereof. The garage they use (Quik Park) is 2 doors down just past the hotel, moving in the direction of traffic, on the same side of the street (the right side). If you self-park in that same garage, the cost (as of June 2014) is about $39.00 for 24 hours, and any time over 24 hours is billed by the amount of time you actually use. I strongly recommend that you self-park. We valet parked and spent our second morning worrying about getting our car out of the garage on time (which we had to estimate, as the time we parked was NOT indicated on our valet ticket) to avoid a second $50 charge for a few extra minutes of parking. If we had self-parked, we would not have had that worry, and would have saved a few bucks, to boot.

Overall, I don't think we'd rush back to this place, but if I knew someone who was considering it for a short tourist visit to the Times Square area, I would not discourage them from staying there. I thought it was a good value and a great location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side away from the street, to keep noise to a minimum. The layout of the hotel means most rooms are away from the elevators, which is really nice. We stayed in room 1402.

Stayed for a week-end in March. The hotel is in a perfect location for sightseeing and Times Square. The room was New York City sized but spotless, beds were very comfortable and the people at the reception desk were very helpful. Our stay included breakfast at the Bistro next door which was a delicious full American breakfast. The parking garage is right next door and very reasonably price by New York City standards. Would definitely stay there again and recommend highly.
